UL, LLC Global Director, Smart Industries Ecosystems & New Solutions in Northbrook, Illinois

As our global footprint continues to grow, we are looking for a Global Director, Smart Industries Ecosystems and New Solutions - Engineering Based Services. This role works to increase Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) value within Smart Environments, Healthy Buildings, Smart Homes, Smart Data Centers, etc., in developing ecosystems strategy across UL Solutions businesses globally.

  • Responsible for driving new solutions and acquisitions across the Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) businesses for priority ecosystems.

  • Lead enterprise-wide ecosystems strategy (collaboration is critical).

  • Establish strategies around core ecosystems and partners, and execute those strategies through internal partnerships, complementary product integration, and go-to-market coordination.

  • Build outside-in view and clear understanding of prioritized ecosystems: value chain, key stakeholders, market / industry trends, voice of customers, personas, pain points, commercial / regulatory environment, consumers, Testing, Inspection, Certification & non-Testing, Inspection, Certification competitors, smart buildings, smart healthcare, retail, etc.

  • Define cross-enterprise portfolio of solutions mapped to ecosystem needs; develop new solutions with businesses as appropriate; build portfolio innovation (new solutions) pipeline for ecosystems.

  • Define go-to-market ecosystem strategy aligned with businesses, Commercial Excellence, and Global & Strategic Accounts.

  • Define appropriate ecosystems delivery model across operating groups.

  • Define overall digital roadmap for ecosystems.

  • Define investment roadmap for ecosystems (organic investments, acquisitions, partnerships, etc.).

  • Define and manage strategy and ecosystem growth to specific revenue goals, specific offerings and solutions with Commercial and COU leaders.

  • Commercialize and scale ecosystem services / solutions.

  • Ensure commercial leaders are building the necessary capabilities in demand generation, sales engagement and customer success to deliver revenue objectives.

  • Own and develop necessary sales and technical training in close collaboration with Principal Engineering leaders.

  • Collaborate with all key stakeholders in developing and driving new services / solutions for the business.

  • Champion an engaged, inclusive and attractive work environment for UL Solutions employees with a winning culture.

  • 15+ years total experience.

  • University Degree (Equivalent to bachelor’s degree) in Business Administration, Engineering, Technology, or a related discipline plus MBA or advanced degree is preferred.

  • Business and technical acumen.

  • Strategic and analytic skills that enable informed, data-driven business decisions and judgement.

  • New service / solution development process expertise.

  • Technological understanding – impact of technology on UL Solutions, services and customers.

  • Ability to drive growth through various business models – Testing, Inspection, Certification as well as software / digital as appropriate.

  • Knowledge of Testing, Inspection, and Certification market.

  • Experience in building and launching new solutions and services within Testing, Inspection, and Certification markets

  • Cross-functional expertise to architect and drive an integrated go-to-market plan.

  • Experience with complex customer interactions, products, and services.

  • Track record of building strong people and teams.

  • Global experience (culture, market, business practices, etc.).

  • Experience leading significant organizational changes.

  • Collaboration and team dynamics.

  • Ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Innovative and strategic thinker who leads the change in the market.

  • Engaging, building a culture of trust, inspirational, ability to drive growth.

  • Skilled at identifying both disruptive and sustaining innovations.
