Weber State University Peer Mentor in OGDEN, Utah

The Peer Mentor is an essential part of the Peer Mentor Program and the Office of Mentoring Programs. The Peer Mentor position is a high impact educational experience. The Peer Mentor will be responsible for supporting the success of assigned mentees by providing intentional mentoring on a one on one and small group setting in the following topic areas: Navigation of campus resources (financial aid,registration,wellness,etc.) Connection to campus and community (transition to college,making meaningful connections,participating in campus and community programs,etc.) Preparation for graduation and beyond (resumes,leadership skills,communication skills,etc.) The Peer Mentor will work under the supervision of the Mentor Advisor and will be required to attend and actively participate in training,staff meetings,workshops,etc.,throughout the year as well as demonstrate a commitment to their team and the department goals and expectations. Peer Mentors will be expected to complete required training for certification during their first semester.In addition to seeking mentors with all majors who can support students of various majors and diverse backgrounds,we are also currently looking for mentors who can work with specific mentoring initiatives currently including:EAST Mentoring (students with majors within the College of EAST to mentor fellow students in EAST)Women in Scholarship Mentor Program (female-identifying students who will mentor fellow female-identifying students with a gender equity & intersectional feminist orientation)Job Responsibilities: Leadership and Mentoring Duties: Being a positive role model for mentees Being a positive representative of the Peer Mentor Program at on and off campus events as needed Demonstrating an ability to work with diverse populations Facilitating effective one on one and small group mentoring meetings Facilitating campus programs participation of self and mentees Facilitating/coordinating relevant workshops Assist students with scholarship applications,FAFSA,registration,admission,and any other service that students need assistance with Assist & facilitate outreach through a number of tabling events & class presentations throughout the academic year. Demonstrating professionalism,excellent communication and listening skills,responsibility,accountability,integrity,and a desire to learn,grow and develop as a leader Being a responsible team member Attending regular staff meetings,training,workshops,etc. Actively giving,receiving,& implementing feedback regarding mentoring skills & performance in a timely manner. Administrative Duties: Demonstrating timeliness and consistency with scheduled work time and showing proficiency in using WSU staff Google calendar/email Logging and tracking mentoring work Sharing information with supervisor,mentees,peers and PMP staff via email,phone or in person in a professional and caring manner Implement Starfish system for scheduling & managing appointments with mentees Other tasks/duties as assigned by supervisor and PMP staff Peer Mentors working with specific cohorts/initiatives must attend additional training,be familiar with policies,timelines and processes relevant to their mentees.
