JOB FUNCTION:

The County Government Intern Program is an educational initiative designed for high school juniors and seniors to deepen their understanding of local government operations. The teacher will design learning experiences over the course of a semester, creating opportunities for students to meet weekly with legislators, department heads, and various committee members, gaining firsthand experience and insight into the functions of county government. This is a part-time (.035 FTE) position.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Schedule and facilitate weekly meetings with county officials, including legislators, department heads, and committee members and the students to develop understanding of the various roles in the county government.

• Create engaging discussions and activities that explore the functions of local government and the process of introducing new legislation.

• Support students as they collaborate with peers and county officials to understand the roles and responsibilities of various departments within the county government.

• Assist students in developing a comprehensive understanding of the structure and operations of county government through practical experience and interaction with officials.

• Coordinate programming with component school districts prior to the start of the semester.

Job Qualifications

Professional NYS Certification in Social Studies preferred. Experience preffered.
