A Brief Overview

Promotes excellence and innovation in pediatric patient care by integrating best practices in healthcare, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data and information, in clinical workflows. Acts as a clinical informatics consultant, leveraging knowledge of information technology as an opportunity to solve organizational problems. Maintains knowledge and experience in multiple system applications in order to ensure visibility and understanding of broad workflows. Facilitates clinical process transformation related to development, implementation and evaluation of the electronic health record (EHR), as well as other clinical information systems. Provides analysis to translate clinical or business workflow and content requirements into software application solutions and participates throughout design, build and monitoring phases with collaboration from various stakeholders. Provides professional nursing and individualized, family centered care to pediatric patients/families, through the use of the nursing process and clinical skills in accordance with standards and hospital policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Promotes the advancement of clinical information systems utilized across the organization while providing oversight and fulfilling the role as liaison for clinical informatics and organizational initiatives. • Provides leadership and guidance in the development and revisions of health information technology initiatives, programs and system changes related to data and workflow analysis and identifying key success metrics, • Analyzes the impact of information technology on clinical work processes and develops alternative processes which assist in optimization of patient outcomes, quality of care delivery, patient safety, effectiveness, and efficiency. • Works to ensure decision support tools (i.e., best practice alerts, smart order sets, etc.) are correctly utilized, maintained, and conveyed to key operational individuals and stakeholders • Leverages a multitude of EMR tools that are intuitive and embedded in workflow, in order to address user requests or clinical application problems so that end users are able to function efficiently and effectively. • Leads or participates in patient safety and quality outcomes activities and manages associated projects, as assigned. Follows project lifecycle methodology on assigned projects and tasks. Examples include leading area based quality improvement documentation initiatives or participating in Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) Workgroups. • Communicates effectively and collaboratively at all levels through meetings, minutes, and formal project status reports as required by sponsors, managers, and leaders. • Coordinates the development of recommendations, attainment of operational endorsement, and implementation of process to accomplish project goals. • Identifies project success metrics and means for success maintenance. Collaborates closely with report writers, and Epic representatives to ensure all operational and regulatory reporting metric needs are achieved for assigned initiatives.

  • Conducts workflow analysis, design, validation, implementation, and maintenance. • Applies clinical process transformation methodology to analyze current workflows. Assesses these workflows for opportunities for technical advancement to gain best practices for clinicians. • Designs, implements, and evaluates future-state workflows and process integration by collaborating with enterprise clinical/business department representatives. • Leads sessions to identify functional and operational metrics of success for new/proposed workflows • Maintains a thorough understanding and working knowledge of clinical/business applications and their associated relationship with other information systems within the organization. Utilizes this knowledge to make recommendations on use. • Designs, builds, and validates EMR tools (e.g. Clinical Decision Support) that support and guide evidence based practice within approved workflows. • Maintains a centralized repository of workflow references (Workflow diagrams) • Collaborates closely with applications training team as well as operational trainers to develop content, curriculum, and a systematics plan for education of new workflows. • Ensures training requirements are achievable, and implementation is feasible. • Evaluates functional (technical) success metrics for individual-tools and in relationship to operational success metrics. • Makes appropriate recommendations for reengineering and modifying system build and workflows based on evaluation of metrics, both functional (technical) and operational and ease of use for end-user • Analyzes and validates new functionality and tests/reviews build in relation to broad workflows, overall integration and organizational needs/challenges.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing Required and

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or nursing informatics Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in nursing required, preferably in pediatrics. Required and

  • Minimum one year facilitation experience in computer software, healthcare business systems, clinical staff development, patient/family education, or community education Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong pediatric clinical nursing knowledge and background.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to include the use of computer technology in program presentations and/or data analysis.

  • Ability to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented.

  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritization skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in development and editing of instructional material.

  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.

  • Must be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of graphics software, networks, hardware and operating systems.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Upon Hire Required and

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required and

  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days Preferred and

  • PEARS - Peds Emergency Assessment within 180 Days Preferred and

  • RN-BC - Informatics Nurse within 1 Year Preferred

  • Commits to obtaining and maintaining assigned Epic certification/accreditation within 180 Days Required and
