The Assistant XC Coach will work under the supervision of the Head Coach. The Assistant Coach must realize and appreciate the need to be a role model for the West Monona Athletics Department and be highly visible in the Onawa Community promoting the sport of XC. • The Assistant High School XC Coach is to assist the Head Coach in supporting West Monona High Schools mission, along with the Activities Dept. Programs mission, with the development and implementation of an exemplary XC program that will effectively provide the best possible educational and athletic experience for each student athlete.

• Valid Iowa Coaching endorsement
• Annual concussion certification required
• Annual completion of Mandatory Reportings

• Comprehensive knowledge of the sport of XC is expected.
• Extensive knowledge of current XC coaching techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of the IHSAA rules and expectations for the sport of XC.
• Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes.
• Utilization of technology is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written words to all stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to establish a strong rapport with all stakeholders of the West Monona High School XC program.
• High level of accountability and visibility to the WMCSD.
• Progressive thinking and a believer in planning and preparation.
• Appropriate sportsmanship at all times.
• Care for the student athlete as a whole person year around.
• Support and expect XC student-athletes to be multi-sport athletes.
• Consistent and punctual basis.
• Ability to create a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment for all athletes, families, and staff.
