SUNY Oneonta Academic Advisor in Oneonta, New York

Guided by our mission that SUNY Oneonta is a place where students grow intellectually, thrive socially, and live purposefully, the Academic Advisement Office invites applications for a professional Academic Advisor. This position works in a fast-paced office as part of an intentional advising model with both faculty and professional advisors working cooperatively to help students define and attain their academic and personal goals. Additionally, we enhance outreach and provide support to all students through general advisement, and specifically, with populations who may benefit from targeted advisement support including financial aid degree applicability, academic performance, and/or academic program exploration. To learn more about the University and the department please visit: https://suny.oneonta.edu/ and https://suny.oneonta.edu/academic-advisement Duties include but not limited to: Utilizing DegreeWorks and related tools to assist students with course selection and planning for enriching academic opportunities (internship, study abroad, research, etc.) Assisting students with major and curriculum program options and career exploration Assisting students with understanding Degree Applicable Credit for financial aid Working with current and incoming students with pre- and post-transfer credit Connecting students to appropriate resource offices Working with undecided and/or probationary students Creating preset schedules for incoming students Participating in Orientation activities, including but not limited to presenting to incoming students and assisting with schedule adjustments Outreach and programming, to include occasional evening and/or weekend events Assisting students with understanding college academic policies and procedures Supporting the University at campus wide events as needed Salary: $53,151. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree Minimum of one year professional or two years paraprofessional experience in a college student service area Experience with student data software Demonstrated effective written communication skills and presentation skills Ability to work some weekends and evenings. Preferred: Master's degree Direct college level academic advising experience Knowledge of federal and state financial aid rules Experience with Ellucian's Banner student information system Evidence of successful collaborations with other college offices Demonstrated ability to work with students for positive outcomes Experience with DegreeWorks Demonstrated record of being highly motivated and self-directed Bilingual Experience working with and serving diverse populations.

Minimum Salary: 53,151 Maximum Salary: 53,151 Salary Unit: Yearly
