State of Massachusetts Engineering Draftsman in Otis ANGB, Massachusetts

The Military Division (Massachusetts National Guard) is seeking a professional for the role of Engineering Draftsman at Otis Air National Guard Base. The selected candidate for this role will serve as the senior engineering technician in support of design and construction projects for the installation. The ideal candidate will be able to independently plan the methods to portray and prepare engineering drawings involving original and complex designs, prepare drawings for major contractual projects utilizing computer design software. Will operate and maintain print reproduction equipment as well as store, catalog, maintain, and update as-built drawings. _Essential Job Duties_(these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive) · Prepares drawings for an entire project. · Prepares project documents including drawing scopes, performance work statements, estimates, request for proposal (RFP), request for information (RFI), and notice to proceed (NTP) documents. · Translates ideas, rough sketches, specifications, and calculations of engineers, architects, and designers into complete and accurate working drawings for use in structure and system maintenance, repairs, or new construction. · Performs material estimates/takeoffs from construction drawings. · Prepares notes on drawings using standard abbreviations and engineering terms. · Maintains copies of all as-builts and new designs on computer storage media. · Keeps a current index and cross-reference of files/drawings. · Sets up reproduction equipment and adjusts controls for proper operation and optimum print quality and maintains all equipment and supplies needed. · Responsible for obtaining reproduction of prints by contract services as well as providing required prints to contracting personnel. · Inspects the work of contractors and their subcontractors to ensure conformance to the contract documents. · Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. · Emergency overtime may be required. · May be required to train/guide lower-graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees. · Will require a favorable background check or a secret clearance. · Must perform additional duties as assigned. _ABOUT OUR AGENCY _ The Massachusetts Guard has a unique dual mission, with both federal and state responsibilities. During peacetime, Guard forces are commanded by the Governor through the State Adjutant General. The Governor can call the Guard into action during local or state-wide emergencies, such as storms, floods, blizzards, and civil disturbances. The Massachusetts National Guard consists of both the Massachusetts Army National Guard and the Massachusetts Air National Guard. We are composed of full-time and part-time Soldiers and Airmen, as well as civilians, who together serve the Commonwealth and country. _Desired and Essential skills_ · Routinely prepares routine original and complex drawings in a timely manner. · Typically prepares neat, legible, and reproducible plans. · Normally prepares estimates in accordance with Air Force standards and regulations. · Effectively uses computer design software to complete drawings. · Almost always, appropriately mounts drawings and sets up tools. · Generally monitors performance of systems, making adjustments accordingly and in a proper and timely manner. · Typically stores copies of drawings promptly ensuring back-up files are maintained. · Efficiently catalogs and updates as-built drawings in the system. · Routinely operates and maintains reproduction equipment in an effective manner. · Ability to gather and organize information according to established procedures. · Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing · Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of people. · Ability to adapt to varying work situations and adjust to meet emergency or changing program or production requirements. · Ability to work independently. · Ability to lift and carry heavy objects. Special Requirements: I. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in engineering, architecture, landscaping or surveying work as a draftsman or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitution below: SUBSTITUTION: Possession of a valid certificate issued by a recognized technical institute above the high school level, indicating proficiency in drafting or mechanical drawing, may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. * * An Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer.
