Purpose/Introduction

We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a Pump & Turbine Mechanic (Millwright) at our Pasadena, Texas facility. The primary role of this maintenance position is to troubleshoot, inspect, repair, and maintain rotating equipment to help drive the improved mechanical integrity of facility equipment in order to achieve safe, reliable and incident-free operations. The P&T Mechanics work closely with other groups such as operations, ERG and third-party contractors and is expected to work in a lead position at times.

The individual is expected to take initiative and to work equally independently or as a member of a team. A high degree of reliability, dedication and intelligence is necessary to perform this job.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently follows safe work practices, basic maintenance procedures and contributes to a safe work culture

  • Participates in job safety analysis (JSA’s), safety audits, and investigations

  • Inspects, troubleshoots, tests and repairs different types of mechanical rotating equipment including, but not limited to; pumps, gear boxes, compressors, mixers, blenders, blowers, and rotary valves;

  • Remove and re-install equipment in the field

  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and create recommendations on measures to correct them

  • Disassemble machine parts when transporting or repairing them, and reassembling the parts correctly

  • Ability to align machines and equipment using manual alignment methods as well as utilize precision alignment tools (ex. Laser alignment tool)

  • Performs PM’s on rotating and reciprocating equipment;

  • Has a working knowledge of rim and face, reverse indicator alignment, and detecting/correcting soft foot;

  • Able to read equipment prints, secure information from OEM manuals, and proficient with the use of measurement tools (micrometers, dial calipers, etc.);

  • Working knowledge of mechanical seals and different seal plans

  • Ensures compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, and follows company policies and procedures;

  • Communicates effectively in verbal and in written form; accurately and efficiently completes paperwork and/or electronic entries relating to work performed

  • Can work at elevated heights, ascend/descend stairs and ladders, work in confined spaces, lift 50 pounds without assistance and can wear upgraded and life critical PPE such as supplied air;

  • Willing to work overtime, nights & weekends when required;

  • Will be required to perform turnaround mechanical maintenance activities and projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and at least 5 years of Millwright experience with rotating equipment in the refining or chemical process industry;

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex machinery issues

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately

  • Time management skills and the ability to work well in a team setting

  • A high degree of reliability, dedication, having a good attitude and taking pride in the job is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate degree in millwright technology

  • Computer skills; Microsoft Office and SAP experience

  • NCCER certification
