THE POSITION

If you are passionate about the food service industry and eager to share your enthusiasm with others, this position is for you! The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township is seeking a Corrections Food Service Instructor to join our amazing team. This valuable position leads inmate workers in food service operations. Help us achieve our mission of reducing criminal behavior by delivering individualized treatment and education to offenders, fostering successful reintegration into the community through accountability and positive change.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will oversee food service tasks and provide vocational training to inmates. Your responsibilities include teaching inmates food preparation, production, service, and baking. You will guide them on the safe and sanitary use of tools and equipment, including proper cleaning, maintenance, and storage practices. Additionally, you will instruct inmates on meal preparation according to recipes, ensuring timely preparation and serving of meals. Your duties involve inspecting food service areas, equipment, and food to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards. You will also review census and menu data, adjust recipes as needed, and manage leftover food to minimize waste by recycling it into usable products.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week

  • Work hours are to be determined (4:30 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM) . You will work rotating shifts with rotating days off.

  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,753.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
