Reference #: 20003053DescriptionThe Speech Perception and Cognition Research Laboratory is seeking to hire a part timeResearch Assistant to work under the direction of the Lab Director. The Research Assistant will be responsible for activities relating to a NIH-funded project on perceptual abilities of older adults with hearing loss. The activities will include: recruitment and scheduling of older participants, assistance with stimuli preparation, administration of testing protocols, organization of data and assistance with preparation of conference posters, manuscripts and grants.Additionally, responsibilities will include activities that insure the smooth operation of the lab, including ordering supplies, overseeing petty cash for participant reimbursement, photocopying, computer searches for research resources and other appropriate duties, as assigned. It is also expected that the research assistant will attend weekly lab meetings, take minutes for the meetings.Required Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in a related field. At least six months of directly related experience with research in hearing and speech field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates who plan to work at least two years in this position are preferred.Required Skills and Abilities:*Some knowledge ofage-related hearing loss.*Strong interest in aging research.*Ability to work in a team environment with strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to work independently as needed.*Proficiency in Microsoft Word processing, Excel, power point and willingness to learn Matlab programs for computer implementation of study protocols.*Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse populations of research participants, students, faculty, staff, and health care providers.*Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and planning.This is a grant funded position.Compliance Statement: In the performance of their functions as detailed in the position description employees have an obligation to avoid ethical, legal, financial and other conflicts of interest to ensure that their actions and outside activities do not conflict with their primary employment responsibilities at the institution.
