Job Title: Health and Safety Manager

Location: Remote

Status – PT Casual (less than 30 hours/ week)

Salary: $55.00 - $65.00/ hour (Based on experience and education)

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Environmental Health and Safety Manger (HSM) supports the HSE Director at the corporate, program, and project level to ensure that company, Federal, State, and local policies and procedures are implemented and followed in regard to health, safety and environmental. The HSM is responsible for the development of project safety plans including project-specific Accident Prevention Plans, Health and Safety Plans, and general Activity/Job Hazards Analyses. The HSM is responsible for identifying and evaluating potential hazards and planning actions to control the hazards to protect personnel, property, and the environment. The HSM will perform audits to determine the effectiveness of the safety program at the project level. Projects are typically for Federal clients including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Navy, and The U.S. Department of Energy.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: HSM typical responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Development of project safety plans based on company and regulatory policies and procedures.

  • Setting appropriate safety standards and implementation of these safety standards

  • Designating proper personal protective equipment (PPE) levels with the assistance of the HSE Director and assuring the required protective equipment is readily available

  • Conducting corporate and site-specific safety training for employees and managing the learning management system.

  • Track and manage employee involvement in the medical monitoring program.

  • Performing site safety audits to assure the implementation of project plans and corporate safety procedures.

  • Performing or arranging for the necessary industrial hygiene monitoring equipment and implementation on project sites as required.

  • Accident investigation to perform root cause analyses and associated reporting.

  • Track safety metrics and report key performance indicators to the HSE Director.

  • Answering employee questions regarding the Health and Safety Program.

  • Informing the HSE Director as to the effectiveness of the Health and Safety Program and any recommended issues, changes, or improvements.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in environmental remediation, construction industry, or general industry safety experience

  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)

  • Board for Global EHS Credentialing (BGC) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred

  • Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM) Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) preferred

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and ACGIH guidelines

  • Experience working on projects with knowledge of USACE Safety and Health Requirements Manual (EM385-1-1).

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training with appropriate yearly updates

  • OSHA 8-hour Supervisor training

  • OSHA-30 hour trained (OSHA 500 training preferred)

  • First-aid, CPR, BBP, and AED trained (certified trainer preferred)

  • Training and experience conducting exposure monitoring/air sampling

  • Proficient computer skills with ability to electronically track and document.

  • Ability and experience in interacting with clients and regulatory agency personnel

WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Maintain professional certifications

  • Take a baseline, annual, and exit HAZWOPER medical surveillance exam

  • Attend annual 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher training

  • Ability and medical clearance to wear a respirator

  • Complete continuing education safety and health related coursework annually

  • Work locations will be a mix of both office and project sites, indoors and outdoors.
