Job Description

This Director of Global Trade Compliance will encourage the trade compliance strategy, globally for the Pharma Services Group (PSG), of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The role will be responsible for crafting, implementing, and driving an innovative digitally enabled global trade compliance program that can respond quickly to the multifaceted geopolitical environment! The individual will be sought out as the subject matter authority and will lead and mentor a team of skilled global trade compliance professionals to ensure compliance across PSG’s network.

In partnership with the Corporate GTC function, this individual will:

  • Evolve, design, develop and implement multi-faceted global trade strategy for PSG including training and qualification programs across all business division.

  • Build trade programs that allow for business optimization and business opportunities

  • Support site import and export personnel in developing efficient, and effective, work procedures to drive compliance with global import and export regulations and management systems.

  • Successfully influence without authority to lead group projects with functional leaders and collaborators from a variety of areas.

  • Highly organized and lead a team in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.

  • A high degree of flexibility and agility with a focus on prioritization

  • Work independently and present optimally across all levels of leadership.

  • Increase the knowledge and integrity trade program across PSG and leverage standard methodologies available through corporate policies.

  • Collaborate with customers to drive the strategic direction of the trade compliance program to ensure robust compliance where business is conducted.

  • Establish effective reporting mechanisms to drive visibility of compliance.

  • Enhance a risk-based and efficient global auditing program.

  • Leverage technology and PPI to improve customer experience and operational excellence associated with industry standards.

  • Work with regulators, freight forwarders, US customs officers, custom brokers, and internal and external customers on all matters pertaining to trade.

Non-negotiable Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and equivalent experience in trade compliance.

  • 15+ years of experience in compliance management with proven experience building and leading a global trade program.

  • Think critically to bring strategy to action and drive implementation of multiple programs across a global network.

  • Experience leading a trade program for a multi-national organization preferred.

  • Proven ability to build, lead, and coach high-performing teams.

  • Effective communication through multi-platforms

  • Must possess sound judgment and work autonomously from established goals and strategic direction.

  • Must be able to navigate high-complexity, cope with multiple priorities and lead through ambiguity in a matrixed organization.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, humility and continuous desire to learn.
