Terracon Environmental (Asbestos/IH) Technician I in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 26771BR Job Description General Responsibilities: The Pittsburgh office is hiring technicians for our growing Industrial Hygiene (IH) practice. The IH Technician is responsible for carrying out field investigations and writing associated reports under the direction of IH Project Managers and other office leadership. Technicians support experienced staff personnel across a variety of local and non-local projects. Studying for and obtaining job related certifications are required.

Basic Functions:

  • Asbestos, Mold, Lead and Industrial Hygiene Surveys.
  • Indoor Air Quality Investigations. *Asbestos, Mold, Lead, and Industrial Hygiene Project oversight.
  • Phase Contrast Microscope Sample Analysis.
  • Occupational Health Exposure Assessments.
  • Preparation and delivery of technical reports.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct tasks related to project monitoring, asbestos/lead surveys, IAQ/mold assessments, and/or other project assignments as appropriate.
  • Perform air monitoring duties for asbestos abatement activities - from inspection to abatement oversight and monitoring.
  • Analyze laboratory and engineering data.
  • Prepare portions of asbestos survey and clearance reports, IAQ/mold assessments, and/or other technical assessment reports.
  • Maintain consistent communication of project progress with the assigned project manager from start to finish of the project.
  • Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy.
  • Prepare Health and Safety Plans/Job Safety Analyses for sites.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Improve customer service, perception, and satisfaction.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with other field personnel and management.
  • Business awareness: specific knowledge of the customer and how Terracon can bring value to the marketplace.
  • Physical able to carry equipment up to 35 pounds, climb ladders, get in and out of basement and attic crawl spaces, etc.
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of instruments including testing instruments, sampling pumps, calibrators, microscopes, etc.
  • Periodic out-of-area travel for projects including some extended stays
  • Ability to work at State and Governmental facilities.
  • Ability to wear a respirator.

  • Ability to study and pass various certification programs.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent time management skills, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize work.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Typing skills to ensure quick and accurate entry of technical reports.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability/willingness for frequent regional travel for fieldwork.
  • Ability to pass a background check for Federal and School Facilities.

Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 0-2 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience. Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.Preferred Certification: Certification as AHERA Building Inspector, NIOSH 582, Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor, preferred.
