UPMC Flex Full-Time Sonographer Specialist - Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a flex full-time Sonographer Specialist to join their Ultrasound team at Magee Women's Hospital! This position will play a key role in performing imaging procedures at an advanced level and provides technical expertise to the other ultrasound techs within the office.

This position will provide a flexible, Monday through Friday schedule with daylight hours. No evenings, weekends, or holidays required!

Responsibilities:

  • May be responsible for High Level Disinfection of devices, supplies and/or equipment

  • Creates and implements new training programs, where applicable, and assists with the startup of new offsite locations. Responsibilities for new locations include, but are not limited to, working on reporting systems, obtaining appropriate images and effectively communicating with attending physicians as well as co-workers and patients

  • Assist with accreditation responsibilities.

  • Attends advanced training sessions and seminars in order to maintain industry standards in imaging techniques and disseminates information to imaging departmental leadership and as a part of new hire orientation.

  • Responsible for tech quality assurance program and the reviewing and updating of protocols alongside of or in place of the lead sonographer. Assumes leadership role in training staff on new equipment

  • Perform ultrasound diagnostic examinations in accordance with Level I and Level II Advanced Sonographer.

  • Serves as a technical resource to sonographers on a daily operational basis. Assist technologist with continuing education needs and participates as a peer delegate in staff annual performance reviews.

  • Leads training on new techniques and protocols for research studies and collaborates with radiologists and researchers where applicable to identify new techniques and problem solving resolutions.

  • ? Collaborates with hospital ultrasound department to provide education and support to sonographers at all levels of training and experience.? Serves as a technical resource to sonographers on a daily operational basis.? Obtain additional images when needed or for incomplete exams.? Call report findings to referring practitioners when needed.? Under the supervision of the attending physicians, issue addended reports when needed to clarify or correct prior reports? Obtain external data from a variety of sources that may be needed for accurate interpretation of exams.? Apply independent, professional, ethical judgment and critical thinking to safely perform diagnostic procedures and ensure appropriate anatomical, pathological and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the study images.? Triages calls from MWH centers, non-MWH centers and other sources.? Assist hospital management with assessment of facility sonographer performance.? Completes both synchronous and asynchronous reviews of images via multiple remote platforms.? Assist physicians in OR.? Assist facility sonographers and physicians with complicated exams and studies performed in the department.? Coordinates and leads research studies and ensures research protocols are followed and data is maintained.? Ensures institutional protocols are followed and Best Practice and Standard of Care Guidelines are met.? Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws and facility policies and procedures.? Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.? Performs other duties as assigned.? Assist in training of residents, fellows, and new physicians to the department.? Assist with patient safety during invasive procedures within the department.? Provide educational support in form of didactic teaching sessions, formal speaking engagements (Grand Rounds), and informal monthly updates to facility sonography staff.

  • Completion a formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) required.

  • 3 years of ultrasound experience required.

Level II Advanced Sonographer required. Performance review consistent with minimum of strong/Solid performance on last performance review.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

RDMS Registered required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
