Laboratory Technician - 21001071 DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:The Department of Medicine Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a qualified Laboratory Technician in a state-of-the-art internationally recognized pulmonary research program in the area of pneumonia and sepsis. Under the supervision of the senior scientist, the incumbent will be responsible for various day-to-day activities in order to maintain the lab. These include making stock solutions, initiating and tracking purchase requests, and organizing and tracking chemicals, supplies, and equipment. The incumbent will also be responsible for performing laboratory techniques such as immunocytochemistry, western blots, PCR, qRT-PCR, cell culture, rodent manipulation, and DNA/RNA extraction. Candidate must have a good knowledge of laboratory skills, a high level of self-sufficiency, and must be able to work independently. Appropriate supervision is provided.Understanding of basic lab techniques is required. Skill/experience with cell culture is desired. Bachelor's degree in biologic or chemical science preferred. Meticulous work habits, dependability, and good communication skills are required. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
