UPMC Psychologist II -Heart and Vascular Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Behavioral Science Division at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is excited to announce an opening for a psychologist position with a primary focus in working with patients in the Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI). This position is full time with opportunity to work in both inpatient and outpatient settings and includes a Clinical Faculty Appointment through University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Pediatrics. This second psychologist position in HVI will focus on provision of psychological support for children, adolescents, and young adults who are treated in the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) or outpatient HVI presenting with intersecting behavioral health and medical needs. The location of this role will be primarily at our main hospital location and one satellite location.

Successful candidates will have well-rounded assessment and intervention experience in pediatric psychology and preference will be given to those with experience supporting families of children with congenital heart defects and acquired cardiac conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings. We are seeking someone to support the growth of our innovative models of care that optimize long-term quality of life throughout childhood, adolescence, and into adulthood.

This role emphasizes collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, nursing, and therapy for delivery of evidence based mental health and neurodevelopmental assessment and care. You will be joining a passionate team, dedicated to offering comprehensive, family-integrated care for our patients and their families.

This role includes provision of two to three days of outpatient evidence-based interventions for HVI patients. Remaining time will be dedicated to providing inpatient consultation, brief intervention, and psychoeducation for parents and staff on neurodevelopment and behavioral health needs for patients and families in the ICU setting as well as time for administrative duties and quality/research initiatives. Opportunities for implementation of group therapeutic support for both children and families is also available.

Providers receive support for continuing education and professional development. Opportunities exist for participation in training and providing supervision.

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology (PsyD or PhD) from an accredited institution.

  • 3 years of experience in Psychology or related field.

  • Post-doctoral fellowship in position specific area (preferred).

  • Excellent clinical interviewing and assessment/therapy skills to work with patients and families.

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Active PA Psychology License

  • Psychologist
