UPMC Research Project Assistant WPI - McClung Lab in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
This role is for the McClung Lab at the University of Pittsburgh. The McClung Lab's research focuses on the role of circadian rhythms in the development and treatment of psychiatric disorders. Our work has utilized rodent models, cell culture work, and human tissue to define the mechanisms by which circadian genes regulate neuronal circuitry, mood, reward, motivation, anxiety, and other constructs associated with psychiatric disorders. The primary function of this role will be in supporting ongoing research and participating in experiments when necessary.
This position is grant funded.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance and direct oversight of the lab's animal colonies
Genotyping of research animals
Working closely with the CARRS study team to assist in behavioral experiments
Act as a resource to graduate students and postdoctoral associates to aid in carrying out experiments
Assisting the research staff in updating and maintaining the lab's website
Work with the lab manager to organize and maintain the lab space
Help with placing orders for the lab, taking regular inventory, and notifying the lab manager when consumables are running low
Perform additional tasks/projects assigned by the lab manager or the principal investigator
Bachelors degree required preferably in Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology, or related research field.
Minimum of two years of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
Direct, hands on experience with PCR/qPCR or other standard molecular biology techniques highly preferred
Experience handling small animals, namely mice or rats in a research setting highly preferred
Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
Prior supervisory and/or project management experience preferred.
