Carmeuse Americas Soil Lab Supervisor in PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania

The Soil Lab Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the soil laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow, quality control, purchasing and maintenance of lab equipment and supplies while adhering to safety protocols. The Innovation Center Lab Supervisor will prepare, test, and evaluate materials based on their results. The material testing will be performed predominantly on, but not limited to, soil, concrete and other construction materials. Additionally, this role will support quality assurance testing and analysis of materials across the Carmeuse network.

Responsibilities:

  1. Primary responsibilities will be to support Carmeuse business units through the Request for Services (RFS) process, which includes sample preparation, testing, data analysis, evaluation, and reporting in compliance with the latest standards and regulations.

  2. Support our businesses through new and innovative uses and testing of calcium-based products for soil stabilization and product development.

  3. Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment in alignment with Carmeuse’s safety guidelines.

  4. Willing to be cross trained in other functional lab areas at the Innovation Center.

  5. Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot any technical issues, following ASTM and AASHTO standards.

  6. Understand and follow corporate processes for purchasing, HR, SAP, expense reports, etc.

  7. Coordinate, oversee, participate in technical support field trials and testing.

  8. Ensure the team stays up to date on the latest trends, technologies and regulations on matters related to soil and concrete testing.

  9. Embrace an innovative and customer-focused environment to generate new business opportunities to help grow company offerings.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Related Field, or relevant work experience.

  2. 7+ years’ experience in Laboratory testing, Manufacturing, and/or R&D with a focus on soil/concrete testing.

  3. Knowledge of lime, limestone, soil characteristics, concrete, and/or aggregate.

  4. Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO methods for construction materials. Tests include soil classifications, UCS, Atterberg limits and LA abrasions to name a few.

  5. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. SAP experience is a plus.

  6. Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to perform many concurrent tasks.

  7. Ability to travel approximately up to 10%, US and Canada only.
