The Opportunity

This position works out of our Plymouth location in the EP division.

In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

As the CAD Designer II, you'll have the chance to support engineers and technicians in the creation and revision of CAD models and/or detailed drawings for medical devices, fixtures, and tooling.

What You’ll Work On

  • Generate 3D CAD models of new and existing design concepts using SolidWorks.

  • Generate detailed drawings of new and existing design concepts.

  • Adhere to and apply current industry drafting standards to detailed drawings.

  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to optimize new and existing designs.

  • Maintain CAD files and corresponding documents in all existing data management systems.

  • Process engineering change requests, updating all applicable documents to current Abbott standards.

  • May perform dimensioning and tolerance evaluations of assemblies, components, and drawings.

  • May perform virtual analysis and simulation testing of 3D CAD models.

  • Ability to recognize and solve typical problems that can occur in own work area.

  • Ensure requirements of the PDP process are adhered to, as necessary.

  • Ensure that quality system requirements are adhered to.

  • Ensure a safe work environment consistent with OSHA requirements and Abbott Policies.

  • Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Certificate, Diploma, or Associates Degree in Mechanical Design/Drafting

  • 3+ years of work experience in a Drafter/Designer role

  • Experience using SolidWorks 2021 or later versions.

  • Experience with a variety of machining/manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability. (e.g. Injection Molding, CNC Machining, Laser Cutting, Laser Welding, Extrusions, Braiding)

  • Experience using engineering measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office products.

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.

  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

  • Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.

  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills

  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Solidworks Associate (CSWA) or Professional (CSWP) certification

  • Experience using Windchill PDMLink 11.0/12.0 with Workgroup Manager or equivalent PLM/PDM system.

  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., Draft Analysis, Interference Detection, Collision Detection, Geometry Comparison)

  • Willingness to learn Creo and AutoCAD mechanical through OTJ or professional training courses.

The base pay for this position is $20.55 – $41.15 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
