Position Details:

 

The Opportunity:

As the Art Director, you provide creative leadership and day-to-day management and oversight to WSU's central University Marketing and Communication (UMC) team of three graphic designers. Reporting to the university's creative director, you lead creative design initiatives and delivers bold visual storytelling solutions. You will effectively and efficiently staff projects, provide communication and direction to the graphic design team, and offers timely and helpful guidance to improve and enhance creative designs. The art director possesses a strong creative vision with a clear understanding of strategic objectives that align to the WSU brand.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

 

• At least 8 years full-time professional experience in concept development and design of high-quality promotional materials.

 

• Demonstrated past success leading a team of graphic designers and working on multiple, large-scale projects on tight deadlines.

 

• Experience managing creative development with proven mentoring, supervisory and team-building skills.

 

• Proven experience across multiple forms of creative expression and production, including traditional, digital, and social media.

 

• Hands-on experience with design principles, typography, color, and composition with a proven ability to apply them to web layout, print production, image selection, motion, video, and social media.

 

• A link to an online portfolio showcasing relevant work.

 

• Demonstrated understanding of how to design for accessibility.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience with standard office software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

 

• Proficient in design tools and technologies, such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects, XD, etc.), Figma, WordPress, HTML, Wrike.

 

• Self-motivated with excellent work ethic, positive attitude, and obsessive attention to detail.

 

• Strong understanding of the existing and changing digital and web landscape, including accessibility.

 

• Ability to work independently and in team environments, where one must respect and cultivate diverse and alternative perspectives.

 

• Strong communication and presentation skills across multi-disciplinary teams, including the ability to lead meetings.

 

• Higher education experience a plus.
