Summary of Duties:

The Hydrogen Properties For Energy Research (HYPER) Research Operations Engineer performs work on specialized fundamental scientific activities and applied research projects in the cryogenic engineering field. Primary responsibilities involve performing work in support of scientific or engineering research which provides practical experience for beginners in a research related field. This individual will utilize advanced skills and knowledge to carry out the following non-inclusive list of tasks: perform complex investigative procedures; modification of procedures to accomplish research goals; collect, process and analyze data; run research protocols; assist in preparing reports and/or publications; and participate in safety planning and training. Positions may rotate through one or more research areas. This position will report to the HYPER Center Director in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) and collaborate with MME staff.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field and experience performing professional-level work with scientific or engineering research protocols. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

 

• Experimental and analytical skills; understanding and knowledge of research theory; excellent organizational and project management skills.

 

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively, multi-task, and meet deadlines.

 

• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

 

• Excellent electro-mechanical hands-on skills.

 

• Excellent verbal/written communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• A master's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.

 

• One (1) or more year(s) experience performing professional-level work with scientific or engineering research protocols.

 

• Experience with developing and implementing safety plans.

 

• Experience with cryogenic and or combustible fuel test facilities.

Monthly Salary: $4,508.70- $6,763.06 | In accordance with https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
