Position Details:
The Opportunity:
As the Scientific Assistant with the Laboratory for Atmospheric Research (LAR), you will in assemble and deploy field samplers for soil flux measurements, collect and analyze samples from off-campus agricultural field trials, and composting experiments at the WSU Compost Pilot Plant. You will organize data, help run the composting pilot plant, and collaborate with students and other researchers. Additionally, you will support safety protocols for both field and laboratory work. Your work will be based in the PACCAR building on the Pullman campus, with occasional travel to the agricultural field near Tekoa, WA.
Required Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master's degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.
• B.Sc. degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
• Willingness to travel to field locations when needed.
• Willingness to learn and work as part of a team.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with https://policies.wsu.edu/prf/index/manuals/safety-policies-procedures-manual/sppm-7-10/ and departmental driving standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with field measurement work and meteorological instrumentation.
• Experience with Campbell Scientific data loggers.
• Experience with trace gas measurements.
• Experience working in a laboratory and familiarity with basic laboratory safety.

Monthly Salary: $3,750.85 - $4,500 | In accordance with https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
