Job Summary:

The peer mentor position is critical to the success of the Sophomore Summer Quest program, which will take place from Sunday, June 16 to Thursday, June 20. Peer mentors will work with SUNY Purchase students on all activities during the session. The following is a list of responsibilities which will be clarified in detail at mandatory training sessions prior to the beginning of the Sophomore Quest.

Job Duties:

  • Submit online timesheets needed for compensation by the conclusion of the training.

  • Attendance at all training sessions, tentatively scheduled for June 15, 2024.

  • Provide feedback to Sophomore Quest staff regarding student progress and needs via a daily meeting with your supervisor.

  • Develop and monitor social interaction of the students and plan/develop extracurricular activities to be approved by the head peer mentor.

  • Handle emergency situations and review disciplinary problems with the Program Administrator.

  • Provide feedback and assist the students in a friendly, helpful manner.

  • Enforce rules and regulations regarding residence hall and campus Community Standards.

  • Build and encourage group cohesiveness for student/program success.

  • Represent the Purchase community as a student leader.

  • Abide by the Campus Community Standards and Policies set forth by the College.

  • Assist with connecting the student to resources and opportunities at Purchase College.

  • Collaborate with other peer mentors regarding programming.

  • Make sure students assigned to you are attending all workshops and program activities and know where they are if they are not present (health services, financial aid, etc.).

  • Maintain positive attitude regarding Purchase College, behave like a role model.

  • Presence at all Sophomore Quest events, meetings, and workshops on a scheduled basis.

  • Assist program staff with reasonable additional duties as needed.

    Job Requirements:

Required Education/Qualifications:

  • Must be in good academic and conduct standing with the college.

  • Must meet the minimum 2.5 grade point average requirements.

  • Must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours per semester as an undergraduate student at a SUNY comprehensive college or university center.

  • Should be patient, reliable, flexible, and enthusiastic.

Preferred Education/Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a peer mentor.

  • Experience in a leadership position.

Compensation: $750 Stipend, Room & Board provided during program/training sessions.

Program Duration: June 16-20, 2024. Peer Mentors should expect to arrive on June 15th for training.
