POSITION DETAILS

Queensborough Community College is accepting applications for the position of Communications Publications Writer-Editor in the Communications Department. The Communications Department in the Division of Strategic Initiatives and Advancement serves the campus community in developing strategies for content and messaging that amplify the College’s unique story and highlight our faculty, staff, students, and academic programs. The Department works closely with Institutional Advancement, Marketing, Strategic Initiatives and Digital Transformation, Information Technology, the Kupferberg Holocaust Center, Queensborough Performing Arts Center and QCC Art Gallery. Reporting to the Chief Content Officer and Director of Communications, the Communications Publications Writer-Editor must have strong writing skills, the ability to manage multiple projects on deadline, excellent editorial judgment, and solid proofreading skills. The successful candidate will:

• Write and proofread original content for multiple platforms.

• Adhere to journalism practices for research, fact-finding, verification, style, and storytelling.

• Assist in developing content that highlights the College’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging.

• Work with the Communications Director to understand and produce effective messaging elements for various mediums.

• Work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding, and complex work environment.

• Research, identify, and recommend story ideas that amplify the College’s brand.

• Prepare and send emails for a variety of audiences utilizing Constant Contact and other mass communication tools.

• Provide communications support to staff within the Division of Strategic Initiatives and Advancement on high-level, campus-wide events.

• Work occasional nonstandard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience working in communications, journalism, or public relations or experience working in higher education.

• Strong research, writing, and communication skills.

• Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact, Higher Logic, or Mailchimp).

• Familiarity with AP Writing Style

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills with the ability to manage diverse assignments while consistently meeting deadlines.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office (e.g. 365, Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.) and knowledge of Social Media Platforms.

• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, from creative process through production, within tight deadlines in a busy office environment.

• Demonstrated experience writing stories for the website, newsletters, or a communications campaign.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$ 52,267 - $62,411.

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
