Southern Industrial is looking for a Project Controller to work out of our Raleigh, NC office. This is an in office position.

The primary role is to support Project Managers with effective utilization and communication of project controls, including forecasting, productivity tracking, scheduling, and reporting. The project controller will need to help balance the manpower requirements of an ever-evolving schedule with the financial constraints of the budget. In this role, you will work to accurately track project progress, status, and key metrics with the project team, and provide updates to executive management on a regular basis. This role determines if projects are being executed within the project budget and schedule, reports when issues arise, and assists the project team with determining the appropriate execution strategy for the project. The project controller will need to assemble project data to present to both internal and external management on regular schedules.

  • Set-up and update project forecasts, productivity tracking, and schedules.

  • Understands fundamental principles of forecasting, productivity tracking, and scheduling.

  • Guides/assists Project Managers with project controls best practices.

  • Acts as an unbiased source of information for the project and executive management team. “Reports the news.” Does not sugar coat updates when projects do not go as planned.

  • Advanced understanding of SIC project controls tools and how to properly use them.

  • Knowledge of SIC reporting system and where to find information for updating project forecast and progress.

  • Reviews and understands project reports/data and how to effectively use the data for project analysis.

  • Provides input to project team on project execution strategies based on current/anticipated project status/health.

  • Works with project team to effectively track and forecast complex contract structures and project installations.

  • Gathers data through field observations, field personnel, project management, project documents, and SIC accounting systems. Compiles data into easy to understand reports for use in project tracking and reporting.

  • Continually re-assess the planned manpower based off evolving schedules driven by customers.

  • Analyze the financial impacts of changes in planned manpower on all individual scopes to ensure completion within budget.

  • Assist accounting in ensuring invoices sent to customers are timely and accurate.

  • Submit and track change requests with customers and follow them through the approval process.

Requirements:

  • Expert level understanding of Microsoft Excel. Working knowledge of programming within Excel in VBA a plus.

  • 2 – 5 years of experience working in industrial construction, or 2 – 5 years of experience working in a role that includes cost and production tracking of project work.

  • Scheduling experience with either Microsoft Project or Primavera preferred.

  • Working knowledge and experience with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint).

  • Bluebeam experience a plus.

  • Working knowledge of project controls best practices and KPIs.

  • Strong planning and multitasking skills.

  • Outstanding organizational skills, flexibility and professionalism.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work as part of a team or lead a team, as circumstance requires.

  • Ability to foresee possible problems and preemptively address them without requiring direction from supervision.

  • Ability to self-prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines and time constraints.

  • Ability to “self-learn” and independently research tasks that are unfamiliar to figure out and implement solutions.

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work overtime when the job requires it.

  • Familiarity with data analysis.
