Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft Entra formely called Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) is at the center of Microsoft’s cloud strategy. It serves billions of requests per day in the stacks powering core authentication and programmability.  The backend directory store is at the heart of Azure AD architecture.  Our team is evolving the directory store platform to address the needs for the next decade. Responsibilities

  • Build, evolve and co-own a hyper-scale distributed service. 

  • Participate in all stages of service lifecycle.

  • Dive deep into global-scale service issues and drive improvements to resiliency, latency, and product reliability.

  • Promote automation effort for regions buildout.

  • Promote improvements in the quality and stability of service fundamentals and promote engineering best practices. 

  • Demonstrate effective customer empathy, curiosity and willingness to question and learn, and participation in live site on-call rotation.

Qualifications

*Required Qualifications: *

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience developing high scale, distributed systems on a cloud platform. 

  • 5+ years of mentoring and coaching other software engineers.  

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements arerequired for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Additional *or Preferred Qualifications: *

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 7+ years’ experience building and shipping production grade software or services with emphasis in telemetry and monitoring.

  • 4+ years of experience building distributed services

  • Knowledge in performance benchmark and optimization

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
