The Artificial Generative Intelligence Security (AeGIS) team is charged with ensuring the safety of all of Microsoft’s generative AI systems against the full range of threats that they face – from traditional security risks, to novel security threats like indirect prompt injection, to entirely AI-native threats like the manufacture of NCII or CSAM or the use of AI to run automated scams. It works in close collaboration with partner organizations across the company.

We are looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer to help build the platform that powers Microsoft’s copilots. As a Principal Software Engineer on the AeGIS team, you will work closely with applied scientists and engineers on building and designing both backend platform capabilities as well as core copilot scenarios aimed at delighting our customers. You will be responsible for building scalable, performant, and cutting-edge features to secure and mitigate potential harm of Microsoft’s copilots. This involves defining the architecture, implementation, ensuring everything is tested and robust, and defining processes to improve our best practices.

  • Architect, develop and deliver solutions in an evolving agile development environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, Javascript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with .Net services

  • 5+ years of commercial systems level software development experience, with one or more of the following: Distributed Systems, Information Retrieval and/or Data Mining, Machine Learning fundamentals. - Ability to communicate technical details clearly across organizational boundaries.

  • Experience in DevOps to maintain live services and\or application frameworks.

  • Experience with LLM orchestration

  • Experience with hosting ML models

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
