How Will You Make an Impact?

The Human Identification Professional Services (HPS) team is a core service offering within the Human Identification (HID) business. HPS functions to collaborate with customer forensic DNA laboratories to improve their technology implementation experiences, and provides services such as validation according to international or regional standards, to training and consultancy programs and seminars. The HPS Validation Application Specialist is responsible for providing consultative level validation support, training and advice to both internal and external customers, on the application and validation of Human Identification systems and workflows, starting from sample collection and extraction, to quantification, amplification, analysis and data interpretation. The candidate is responsible for building links with customers, and building on opportunities to collaborate with customers on various forensic DNA projects, from validations to research projects, evaluations, consultancy programs and turnkey solutions. The HPS team is highly passionate, committed to advancing solutions used by crime laboratories and forensic DNA testing facilities worldwide.

What will you do?

This position would suit someone with a demonstrated experience in performing and managing technical projects, with extensive experience in using the Applied Biosystems human identification range of kits, instruments and software. Ideally, the candidate possesses employment experience with a private or government forensic DNA laboratory, and has performed validation work to satisfy accreditation requirements of international standards such as ISO/IEC 17025-2017, covering validation aspects such as designing comprehensive experiments, performing laboratory work to a high standard, analyzing complicated sets of data, writing quality reports/manuals and conducting training and implementation programs. The candidate would possess a high attention to detail, and able to work both independently and as part of a distributed team, with minor supervision from a project manager, be resourceful and resilient, be an excellent communicator with outstanding communication and social skills. Experience and familiarity with robotic platforms and automated systems would be advantageous.

Other requirements:

  • 50% travel (domestic and international) may be required on a periodic basis.

Minimum education and experience requirements:

  • B.S., M.S. or higher in molecular biology, chemistry, or related discipline.

  • 2+ years in a technical role in a forensic DNA laboratory setting

  • Experience with the forensicDNA analysis workflow, HID laboratory environment, and validation requirements

  • Proficiency in the interpretation of forensic DNA analysis results and familiarity with challenges faced by forensic DNA analysts
