Job Summary:
In this role, you will conduct field investigations and plan specifications for project geotechnical design. You will oversee the field and laboratory, conduct studies, and interpret regulations. You will participate in new business efforts and proposal preparation including identifying client needs and developing cost estimates. Your expertise will help ensure geotechnical project aspects meet project requirements.
Major Responsibilities:
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard geotechnical engineering methods preparing specifications for subsurface investigations for new and existing facilities
Provides oversight of geotechnical analyses such as stability of soil and rock slopes, rock excavation and slope protection, bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations, lateral earth pressures, and axial and lateral pile capacities
Coordinates civil or structural engineering designs with geotechnical assessments
Conducts review of geotechnical interpretative reports and works with geotechnical consultants to produce high quality co-coordinated submissions
Assists with and advises on earthwork operations, inspection of earthworks and monitoring of ground improvement during the construction phase of projects
Oversees outside geotechnical consultants hired by Bechtel or the client to perform these tasks
Provides input to reports and may provide technical assistance to other geotechnical personnel
Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project requirements related to addressing issues as they arise during project execution
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires M.S. degree in geotechnical engineering and 8 years of relevant work experience, or Ph.D. degree in geotechnical engineering and 6 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with Microsoft office programs, and other common computer programs
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively
Knowledge of the application of geotechnical engineering design principles
Professional Engineer in U.S. (Geotechnical or related Engineering)
Knowledge of site and subsurface investigation, development of engineering properties of soil and rock, foundation design and analysis, foundation analysis under dynamic loads and earthworks
Knowledge of pile installation and testing, numerical analysis using FEM and FDM, soil and/or rock slope stability and construction specifications
Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including those related to the nuclear industry
Knowledge of soil liquefaction analysis and construction dewatering
Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs (including nuclear) and occupational health and safety
Experience with licensing, design, and construction of commercial nuclear power plants
Knowledge of pile design, installation and testing for PV solar projects
Prior experience working on large industrial or civil infrastructure projects
Demonstrable engagement with professional societies, membership in technical/code committees, publications and presentations
