Job Responsibilities/Duties

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site which is the largest environmental cleanup organization in the world with dynamic engineering teams coordinated between nuclear operations and critical projects to serve the WRPS mission. The mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste dating back to the Manhattan Project and Cold War. In your engineering role, you will gain fundamental engineering knowledge that is critical to complex multi-disciplined teams that are responsible for radioactive and hazardous waste cleanup.

In the role of HVAC Engineer, you will grow your professional career in a highly integrated organization where your will get to interact with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Safety, Industrial Safety, Quality Assurance, and Projects. This position reports to the Design Services group. This position will be responsible for the design of new facilities, updating design to existing facilities and review of external designs. The Design Services group is a multidisciplined team that includes Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Civil Engineers, Structural Engineers, Designers and Project Delivery Managers.

The HVAC Engineer will be required to provide the following duties for this position:

  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary and final design, perform engineering analysis, develop and prepare engineering calculations

  • Develop details and prepare engineering drawings.

  • Prepare quantities, cost estimates and construction specifications

  • Prepare engineering reports

  • Review designs, plans and shop drawings

  • Perform field observations, inspections and measurements

  • Attend project meetings

  • Field support includes troubleshooting and operational support for HVAC, exhaust ventilation systems, mechanical systems, control systems, and facility instrumentation.

  • Set high standard for conduct of engineering, quality of products, and compliance with procedures, codes, and standards.

  • Be customer service oriented, completing assignment safely, on time, and within budget.

  • Perform administrative duties on time (routine training, safety meetings, daily time allocation, continuing training, staff meetings).

  • Attendance at weekly operations and engineering team meetings.

  • Engineering support to HVAC projects, if needed, during testing and installation phases.

  • Provide training and mentoring to help develop less experienced engineers.

  • Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and engineering ability to support operations, maintenance, and facility customers in office, facility, and field settings.

Required Qualifications

Grade 19:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline

Nine (9) years related experience.

Grade 20:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline

Ten (10) years related experience.

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.

Grade 21:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline

Twelve (12) years related experience.

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with nuclear and/or non-nuclear heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems with the key element in managing and controlling vapor hazards within facilities.

Experience in application of nuclear ventilation codes and standards (e.g., ASME AG-1) and/or industrial ventilation and emissions control systems.

Previous experience providing engineering support for operation, maintenance, and/or facility customers.

Compensation & Benefits

Grade 19:

Hiring Range Minimum: $114,475

Hiring Range Maximum: $144,325

Grade 20:

Hiring Range Minimum: $126,025

Hiring Range Maximum: $158,875

Grade 21:

Hiring Range Minimum: $138,700

Hiring Range Maximum: $174,900

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
