Robert Half Accounting Clerk in Ridgeland, South Carolina

Description We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated individual to join our team in the local government sector located in Ridgeland, South Carolina, United States. This role involves undertaking the responsibilities of an Accounting Clerk, where you will be expected to perform a variety of technical accounting tasks in the preparation and maintenance of the budget and accounts payable functions.

Responsibilities:

• Perform duties related to accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including data entry and maintenance of vendor W-9 files.

• Oversee the vehicle fleet lease program and ensure its smooth operation.

• Match invoices with the corresponding purchase orders and review financial documents for discrepancies.

• Conduct timely research and resolution of any discrepancies found in financial invoices, credit memos, statements, and other financial information.

• Reconcile bank accounts maintained by the Finance Department and prepare checks for submission to the Treasurer.

• Prepare and manage cash receipts documents.

• Assist in the preparation of financial and statistical statements and reports.

• Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to all work to ensure compliance with applicable standards.

• Maintain digital and physical financial records and enter financial transactions into the accounting database.

• Assist in the procurement process as needed and participate in quarterly and annual audits.

Skills:

• Proficiency in Accounts Payable (AP)

• Proficiency in Account Reconciliation

• Proficiency in Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Proficiency in Bank Reconciliations

• Proficiency in Credit Card Receipts

• Proficiency in Cash Payments Requirements • Possess a minimum of 1 year of experience in an accounting role, preferably within a local government setting.

• Proficiency in managing Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) is mandatory.

• Must have experience in Account Reconciliation, ensuring accuracy and compliance of financial records.

• Experience in handling Bank Reconciliations, identifying and resolving any discrepancies in financial records.

• Should be able to process Cash Payments accurately and efficiently.

• Must have experience in managing Credit Card Receipts, ensuring all transactions are accounted for and recorded correctly.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills to handle numerical data efficiently.

• Proficient in the use of accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills for preparing reports and interacting with various departments.

• Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to multitask effectively.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

• Proven ability to adhere to ethical accounting practices and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

• Must demonstrate a strong understanding of local, state, and federal government accounting standards and regulations.
