Position description
Seeking applicants for a Research Technologist within the laboratory of Dr. Diana Jurk in the Department of PBME and Neurology on the Biology of Aging and Age-related Diseases.
We are looking for a long-term technologist/lab manager. A candidate with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant area (Biology/Chemistry) is preferred. Critical thinking, honesty, curiosity, strong work ethic, communication skills and the ability to work well with others both within and outside the group is required. This is a team-based position to provide research and technical support to current and new research projects focused on testing new senolytic therapies in cell cultures and various mouse models.
Responsibilities:
Technical support for ongoing laboratory research experiments (70%)
Genotyping PCR
Tissue processing
Immunofluorescence and Histochemistry staining of cells and tissue sections
Microscopy of stained cells and tissues (IHC, IF)
Maintaining sterile tissue cell culture and test new senolytic drugs
Immune assays including ELISA
Use of various software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, GraphPad etc.)
Developing and writing protocols
Collecting, entering and summarizing data
Presentation at research laboratory meetings
Works under supervision and may perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator
Lab organization and management (30%)
Ordering supplies
Tracking orders
Record keeping (inventories for reagents, animals)
Preparing reagents, autoclaving

Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals, grant commitments, i.e. assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc. Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects, enters and summarizes data. Assists in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies. Performs basic statistical data analysis; prepares tables/charts/graphs and assists in organizing data. Presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to writing of manuscripts. Works under supervision and may perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.
Qualifications
Requires bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science.
Additional qualifications
Must exhibit a solid understanding of lab techniques, equipment, and safety. Must have the ability to organize and carry out laboratory techniques independently and in a team setting. Experience with basic data analysis is required. This position requires demonstrated writing skills.
