University of Rochester Assistant Supervisor - Evening Shift Hematology/Chemistry Lab in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Assistant Supervisor provides daily technical and administrative supervision of personnel in all aspects of the laboratory involving patient care functions. The Assistant Supervisor also functions as a Clinical Technologist II as needed. In conjunction with the Faculty Director, Chief Supervisor and Supervisors, job duties include, but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform review of laboratory results and reports. Review data for accuracy, troubleshoot problems and discrepancies. Participate in all laboratory QA activities. (15%)

  • Assist in the training and instruction of laboratory policies and procedures. Participate in continuing education; Keep abreast of new developments in Chemistry and/or Hematology. (5%)

  • Oversee daily operations with accountability for the professional conduct and technical performance of personnel. Counsel and direct personnel as needed. (10%)

  • Assist in the assignment scheduling of personnel. Monitor QC trends, and other laboratory records as needed to meet the requirements of regulatory agencies. (5%)

  • Perform the duties of a Clin Tech II. (40%)

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and written. Responsible for the communication of patient care problems to Supervisors, Residents, and/or Faculty Director. (5%).

  • Participate in and coordinate others in special projects, development of new procedures, laboratory housekeeping, equipment maintenance and the management of reagent/supply inventories. (5%)

  • Participate in the interview, performance review, and competency assessment processes. Recommend personnel actions including promotions, disciplinary action and termination. (2%) Provide supervisory coverage for the Central Laboratory in the absence of the Supervisor (2%).

  • Participate in the weekend and holiday supervisory coverage on a rotational basis (10%).

Other Demands:

  • Punctuality and a good attendance record.

  • Adherence to all University, Division and Department policies.

  • Professional discretion with confidential patient results and personnel counseling/disciplinary actions.

  • Adherence to all laboratory safety procedures.

  • Participation in continuing education including Human Resource leadership training.

  • May perform supervisory duties on weekend and holiday rotations, or to cover in the absence of a Central Laboratory Supervisor.

  • Must be licensed by NYS as a clinical technologist.

  • Upholds URMC Meliora and ICARE Behaviors.

Relationships/Authorities:

  • Assistant Supervisor reports to a Central Laboratory Supervisor(s).

  • Generally works independently, seeking guidance from laboratory Supervisors, Pathology Residents and/or Faculty.

Education/Experience:

  • MS in Clinical Chemistry, Chemistry or related science and at least 2 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.

  • BS in Medical Technology and at least 4 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be NYS Licensed or eligible for NYS licensure.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $36.97 - $51.78 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
