POSITION SUMMARY:

Exercising thorough knowledge of department policy and procedures, and with some latitude for initiative and judgment, performs routine and non-routine duties relating to the establishing of financial arrangements with patients or responsible third-party to cover hospital charges.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:

Under supervision of department manager or other designated authority.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:

None.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Such department equipment as telephone, photo-copier, micro-film reader/printer, typewriter and the like.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  1. Edits and reviews In-Patient and Out-Patient accounts to assure that they are complete, accurate and reflect the particular patient's financial responsibility.

  2. Exercising tact and judgment, interviews patients and/or responsible parties and may establish financial arrangements for charges.

  3. Processes commercial insurance claims when applicable. Refers to collectors for payment arrangements, if appropriate.

  4. Retains responsibility for patient bills until paid in full, editing follow-up bills originated by the computer and making contact with responsible parties when necessary to insure complete satisfaction of the account.

  5. May coordinate and/or train other lower classified clerical personnel as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

AAS degree in business field plus 2 years related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Pay Range

Pay Range: $18.52 - $25.01 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
