Summary

Perdue Foods-Rockingham is seeking a skilled Maintenance Electrician to assist with operations. The purpose of this position is to perform all needed preventive electrical maintenance. This position will be dedicated to a specific process in the facility and will be the Subject Matter Expert of this process. Exhibits proficiency in performing regular adjustments, installation and repair work in response to department demands both during product and non-production hours. Responds to emergency breakdowns and needs in a timely manner with OSHA Lockout/Tagout and Company safety regulations. Responds to management concerns of equipment performance informing production supervisors or any necessary modifications or system malfunctions that would affect their area of operation now or in the future.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Willingness to adhere to Perdue Safety Policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for supplying own hand tools for system operation, preventive inspections, and repairs.

  • Must be able to walk long distances to conduct rounds and checks during shifts.

  • Familiarization in maintenance, Process Safety Management (PSM), respirator training, confined space entry and other safety programs.

  • Must be available to work weekends as scheduled.

  • Perform regular adjustments, routine scheduled preventative maintenance, calibrations, and repairs from departmental demands both during production and non-production

  • Troubleshoot electrical motors, frequency drives, PLCs, proximity sensors, limit switches and relays.

  • Troubleshooting industrial electrical issues (12vdc to 480vac).

  • Responds to emergency breakdowns and needs in a timely manner within OSHA lockout/tagout and Perdue safety requirements.

  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, precision-measuring devices, and testing instruments.

  • Hold operational knowledge of assigned plant area as well as position class knowledge. Will be the subject matter expert on assigned equipment.

  • Respond to processing manager’s needs and requests on an as needed basis or through work assignments as assigned by the Plant Manager.

  • Read and interpret Equipment blueprints, schematic, and operators’ manuals for troubleshooting purposes.

  • Performs complex technical work, on a journeyman level, in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and related electro-mechanical systems, in accordance with applicable Electrical Industry Codes.

  • Communicate with the planning department for all recommended repairs, and or parts that would need to be ordered.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and contribute to continuous improvement.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Minimum Education

  • High School or equivalent.

  • Electrical Apprenticeship or Advanced Technical Electrical training; Vocational/technical school preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • 4 plus years. Reading, writing and analytical skills are required.

  • The ability to interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and electrical schematics is required

  • Must have all personal tools at all times and be able to use and operate hand tools and industrial shop equipment.

  • Requires knowledge of math that relates to performing maintenance activities.

  • The ability to use electrical test equipment and small hand and power tools, such as wrenches, drills, soldering irons, volt-ohmmeters, amp meters, circuit testers, and vacuum and pressure gauges, is required.

  • Able to verify dimensions and diagrams for assembly, disassembly and troubleshooting purposes. Able to determine clearance of parts to ensure conformance to specification using precision measuring instruments.

  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

  • Computer literacy is required.

  • Must be able to apply electrical formulas and conversion tables to job requirements.

  • Promotes preventive maintenance as a strategy in maintaining electronic test equipment and mechanical tools.

Experience Preferred

  • 3 to 4 years of prior experience related to supporting manufacturing processes by repairing industrial equipment, including electrical components, motors, pumps, hydraulic systems, compressors, chillers and boilers preferred.

  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • Position is active. On the plant floor activities such as troubleshooting and re-design of existing systems are routine.

  • May need to move equipment occasionally; May need to access files, supplies and equipment.

  • Position requires an associate to have the ability to move throughout the complex and all facilities.

  • When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces. May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db. May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility. Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
