Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineering Intern in the Greater Hartford area to join AECOM’s Transportation team in the Rocky Hill, CT office. Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study. This internship is transportation-focused, working with regional railroads and transit authorities.

This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2024.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Builds analytic and design skills.

• Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

• Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.

• Perform quality control reviews and design checks of railroad projects.

• Train in civil site design, track design, overhead catenary systems (OCS) engineering, utilities, and drainage.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Candidate must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.

• Must have completed 3 years of study at the time of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficient in MS Office Suite.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Ability to manage time, deadlines, keep track of steps, and prioritize tasks.

• Knowledge of industry-standard software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InRoads, OpenRoads)

• 1 cycle of internship experience is a plus.
