The role you’ll contribute:

GENERAL SUMMARY:

  • Responsible for the implementation and coordination of AH Redmond’s house-wide program for Infection Prevention & Control based on evidence-based practices and regulatory standards and regulations.

  • Responsible for surveillance of the hospital for healthcare-associated infections

  • Responsible for mandatory reporting of infections to the appropriate regulatory authority

  • Identifies risks for the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents on an ongoing basis and based on risks, works with quality to establish priorities and sets goals for preventing the development of health care- associated infections (HAI's) within the hospital.

  • Assists in the development of programs designed to lower the risk and improve rates/trends of epidemiologically significant infections for patients and staff.

  • Participates in the review and/or development of policies and procedures as indicated and/or requested.

  • Accurately interprets regulatory standards related to infection control or employee health, for all levels of hospital personnel and medical staff as requested or directed.

  • Coordinates the reporting of communicable diseases to health departments and assesses the significance for healthcare workers.

  • Actively participates in surveying the hospital and its population for HAI's, hazards, or situations contributing to infections for the purpose of providing quality patient care and a safe working environment. Serves as a resource for orientation, patient care practices and staff education.

  • Monitors aseptic and sterilization practices for patient care practices, supplies, equipment, linen, and trash.

  • Provides subject-matter expertise on Hospital Compliance, Patient Safety and Employee Safety Issues.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the direction of the quality director, has oversite of Infection Prevention Program

  • Based on scientific practice: Maintains policies/ procedures/protocols based on current scientific practices/guidelines. Obtain support/approval from administration/over site committees.

  • Re-evaluate on a scheduled and "as needed" basis. Collaborate with quality and all levels of hospital personnel for implementation, as needed.

  • Comply with regulatory standards: Accurately interpret and implement regulatory standards for infection control practices (i.e. TDH, JCAHO, CDC, and OSHA) to all levels of hospital personnel.

  • House wide Plan: Incorporate IC Program as a major component of hospital safety and performance improvement programs and/or other department-specific infection control plans.Evaluate and redesign program periodically based on identified need and effectiveness.

  • Community-wide effort: Coordinate/provide reporting of communicable, contagious, epidemiologically significant diseases/organisms to the appropriate community health authority (i.e. local or state Health Departments, CDC).Implements plans to respond to infections that may potentially overwhelm resources (Bioterrorism/Surge capacity).

  • Administrative support: Maintain current "Letter of Authority" for rapid intervention/outbreak investigation if significant infection risk(s) for patients, visitors, or staff are identified. Maintain a "cost-responsible" program.

  • Program Leadership: Maintains professional growth and competencies to serve as a resource person/educator for orientation, patient care practices, protocols/procedures, staff education, and employee health services.

  • Conducts activities to prevent and control infection in patients and personnel.

  • Provides consultation regarding the purchase of all equipment and supplies used for linen, trash, sterilization, disinfection and decontamination practices.

  • Periodically reviews cleaning procedures, agents and schedules in use throughout hospital and provides consultation regarding opportunities for performance improvement.

  • Identify risks for acquisition and transmission of infectious agents thru active surveillance of infections occurring in the facility.(Example:Lab-based, focused, prevalence or incidence studies).

  • Manages surveillance data by tracking, trending, and reporting as deemed necessary.

  • Investigates single cases of epidemiological significant infections as well as clusters of infections above expected level and provide interventions based on scientific practice.

  • Conducts surveillance of hospital practices that would decrease or prevent hospital-acquired infections (HAI's). (Example:Isolation Protocols, hospital-wide barrier precaution compliance, Handwashing compliance)

  • Provide statistical surveillance data for Corporate Clinical Indicators in a timely fashion.

  • Actively participate in hospital safety rounds.

  • Completes other tasks as assigned.

  • Provides consultation regulatory guidelines for Employee Health.

  • Provides consultation for policies, procedures, and protocols as they relate to prevention of employee infections or worker safety.

Qualifications - External

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

EDUCATION and LICENSURE REQUIRED:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

  • ASN Degree

  • Experience in Infection Control practice is essential, 3-5 years required.

  • RN Licensure in the state of Georgia
