Summary This position is established to serve as Environmental Management Service (EMS) Housekeeping Aid Supervisor for the Roseburg, Oregon VA Medical Center. The incumbent is responsible for the planning, direction and management the environmental sanitation, pest control, linen distribution, employee uniform service, recycling, waste management, and furniture warehouse management. Responsibilities The Supervisory Housekeeping Aid (SHKA) responsible for the planning direction and management of a total program designed to provide a sanitary environment appropriate to a health care facility. They formulate the environmental management plan in consultation with Chief and Assistant Chief of EMS and are responsible to have an accountable role with providing a suitable health care facility sanitation environment in accordance with The Joint Commission, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), VHA standards and, as such, develops and recommends to management those methods, techniques and procedures which will accomplish programs objectives. The quality of the sanitation service provided directly affects the total mission of patient care as well as contributing to the favorable appearance of the Medical Facility. The SHKA carries out day-to-day functions independently, keeping the Assistant Chief EMS advised of special problems and unique situations. Priorities and deadlines for special projects are jointly determined. The work is reviewed on the basis of results achieved and feedback from administrative and clinical staff, patients, and visitors in areas serviced. Serves as an Environmental Management Service (EMS) Supervisor over a team consisting of 10-15 Environmental Service Technicians, EMS Work Leader, and a Material Handler at the Roseburg VA Health Care System (RVAHCS). This position reports to the Assistant Chief of EMS. This position to be physically located at Roseburg VA Medical Center in Roseburg, Oregon with occasional travel to: Eugene VA Health Care Center in Eugene, Oregon, Brookings Community Based Outpatient Clinic, Brookings, Oregon North Bend Community Based Outpatient Clinic, North Bend, Oregon Other Duties Include: Supervises and directs activities of staff including work assignment, performance evaluation, and development; participates in employee selection, disciplinary action, and complaint resolution. Schedules, coordinates and provides field supervision of staff involved in advanced cleaning and disinfecting activities located throughout the facilities operating under limited supervision and assigned in critical areas requiring advanced sanitation competencies such as Laboratory, Pharmacy in accordance with USP 797 and 800, Operating Room, GI clinics, Sterile Processing, and In-Patient Precaution areas. Orders sanitation materials and supplies. Provides input for and assists in the preparation of performance evaluations of assigned subordinate personnel. Provides for the training of assigned personnel in work methods, use of tools and equipment and safety practices. Performs crew work including the operation of all types of motorized equipment; may operate equipment during training or emergency situations. Overseas and monitors hazardous waste and hospital waste removal and recycling to include; sharps, biological waste, pharmaceutical waste, non-regulated waste, and regulated waste performed by Wage Grade Material Handlers. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Supervising housekeeping/custodial/janitorial staff applying the necessary skills and techniques required to accomplish all aspects of an Environmental Program Service Sanitation Program; maintaining an acceptable level of cleanliness and sanitation in all assigned areas of responsibility as well as other service functions such as linen distribution and security of linens, pest control, furniture movement, signage and interior decoration. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work performed may require continuous walking, standing, stooping, stretching and lifting. Manual effort may be necessary during training sessions or in emergency situations. Work involves light to heavy physical effort in the following; frequently lifting or moving objects weighing fifty pounds, constant standing, walking and occasionally lifting over fifty pounds. Work is performed in all area of the Medical Center. Incumbent demonstrates a cooperative attitude towards supervisor and subordinates as well as other facility employees, patients and visitors. Be able to operate and demonstrate the use of all EMS equipment. Education Additional Information This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive through 9/7/2024. Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI for a pro-rated amount if onboard prior to the CSI expiration date. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI.
