Cisco Lead Technical Writer in RTP, North Carolina

About this role:

The Lead Technical Writer is responsible for creating, updating and maintaining Cilium documentation as a whole, the main part of it being developer and user documentation. You will be at the forefront of our users' experience for both Cilium OSS and Cilium Enterprise, making the most technically advanced Kubernetes networking product on the market accessible through first-class documentation. The documentation lead works closely with engineering, solution architects, marketing, and community teams to drive forward and organize content. The documentation covers initial concepts of technology and product, getting started guides, tutorials, reference documentation, operational guides, as well as best practices.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead all technical documentation efforts for Isovalent’s Cilium distribution including operational documentation, training, and guides.

  • Work closely with engineering and solution architects to create high-quality technical content.

  • Conduct reviews and surveys with customers to understand how documentation and the information architecture can be improved.

  • Share knowledge on documentation & developer content best practices with maintainers, the product development team and the community as a whole, building a culture of documentation in the community and at the company.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working with one of the popular documentation frameworks such as Read the Docs.

  • Experienced in structure documentation, creating flows

  • 3+ years of experience in GitHub and Git revision management.

  • Experienced in networking, security, and Cloud Native technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Passion for writing high-quality technical content.

  • Excellent writing skills in English.

  • Team management skills to facilitate collaboration with engineering peers in other verticals to jointly convert knowledge from an SME to high-quality documentation and training content.

  • Understanding of markdown and restructured text.

  • Experience with leading user research to improve documentation is a plus
