JOB OVERVIEW:
As the Research & Development Engineering Manager, you'll lead global efforts to ensure our subsystem portfolio thrives. Your focus: timely, budget-friendly, and quality New Product Introductions, including sustainability goals. Collaborate with teams to meet TE's high standards and market expectations. As a leader of multiple engineering teams, your responsibilities will extend to handling both internal and external escalations, fostering continuous improvement in our engineering systems, and driving effective knowledge management within the engineering domain. You will also play a crucial role in managing engineering capacity and capability, identifying skill gaps, and devising individualized development plans to bridge these gaps effectively. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Lead the global SubSystems engineering activities with product development and product engineering teams in Den Bosch and Bangalore in support of BCS's new product and sustaining engineering efforts
Ensure close coordination of PDE/PE teams with manufacturing development engineers early in the development process to identify and address design for manufacturability challenges
Enforce the proper usage of advanced quality planning tools in the development, like DFMEA to identify design risks early on and mitigation strategies, as well as support in the creation of PFMEA and prototype control plans
Engage in cross-functional business development for SubSystems customers and project portfolio with the product management function
Handle escalations with key OEM customers and ability to set and drive task force activities for product performance resolutions in the case of escalations
Ensure project execution is on time, on budget and on quality to committed project execution contracts
Refine platform vs. application engineering approaches to streamline development efforts and enable economies of scale via common design elements vs. customer-specific designs
Responsibility for engineering aspects in customer SOWs
Responsibility for yearly delivery of agreed material productivity in SubSystems product line via driving of VAVE idea creation and execution
Engineering representative for the plants in quality audits, ensuring that ISO9001 engineering requirements are met and can be demonstrated
Support the BCS manufacturing footprint strategies in handling the re-qualification aspect of product transfers in strong coordination with product management and operations
Drive compliance with raw material platforming and push for increased sustainability (resins & metals)
Ensure effective and efficient work execution by employees
Management of departmental opex budget
Management of departmental G&Os, regular conversations with purpose, and year-end evaluation processes, as well as ensuring continuous development of necessary and evolving skills in the product development function
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Must have a minimum of an academic degree in a discipline of Engineering
Minimum of 8 years experience within an Engineering / Manufacturing environment with project responsibilities associated with product or process development, and/or project management
A minimum 5 years experience in a product development environment is required, ideally with mechanical products in harsh environments
Fluent in English. Dutch and German would be a plus
A professional level of business acumen
A good understanding of manufacturing processes combined with good technical awareness
Know-how of quality tools in engineering (DFMEA, reliability engineering)
Deep knowledge of product development processes in a stage-gate approach
Ideally experience with developing products inside ATEX framework
System understanding of PLC / Automation Controls architectures would be a benefit
