Overview

Since 1925 Dignity Health Mercy General Hospital has been providing a wide range of health social and support services with special advocacy for the poor and underserved. The 419-bed facility includes the nationally recognized Dignity Health Heart & Vascular Institute and The Joint Commission-certified Stroke Programs. Mercy General Hospital also houses the first CARF- (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited Acute Rehabilitation Unit in the region. Mercy General Hospital’s Alex G. Spanos Heart & Vascular Center is a state-of-art four story addition that provides all cardiac services under one roof: Cardiac Rehabilitation Cardiac Support Unit and Cardiopulmonary Services. It also includes: 71 private family-friendly patient rooms expanded 21-bed cardiac ambulatory procedure area and a highly advanced 20-bed cardiac surgery ICU. Additionally Mercy General Hospital has achieved Level 4 Epilepsy Center designation.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Under supervision, this position performs the following procedures or tasks as requested by the Manager of Cardiopulmonary. Cleaning all ventilators, oxygen equipment, and sterilization and packaging of such equipment. Keeping inventory records, ordering and maintaining such supplies as directed by the manager.

  • Does inventory of all departmental regular stock items biweekly. Does not have to emergency order items more than 2 to 4 times monthly. Maintain not more than 2 weeks stock on hand and not less than 1 weeks stock.

  • Enters RCP daily billing into HIS on weekends and as needed during the absence of department's secretarial staff. Is accurate on input from RCP billing records 95 to 97% of the time as evidenced by 10 monthly random checks of comparison of therapist billing record to HIS patient bill.

  • Cleans ventilators, performs ventilator calibration verification and sets up for patient use. Performs cal verification, maintains records of the verifications and tags all failing ventilators that cannot be troubleshot for review by the Special Projects Coordinator or Bio-Med. All ventilators will have a successful cal verification before being used on a patient (100%). Completes cleaning and cal verification on all ventilators brought to the department by the end of the day (90 to 95%).

  • Deliver ventilators to ICU and ER on request by therapists within 5 minutes 85 to 90% of the time.Cleans, inspects all non-disposable equipment, and assures proper cleaning and/or sterilization. Trouble shoots and makes simple repairs and reassembles the equipment prior to the completion of the shift (90 to 95%). Maintains records, tests daily, and changes sterilization solutions on a timely basis 95 to 97% of the time.

  • Inspects all electrical equipment for physical damage prior to clearing for reuse. Tags and refers all damaged equipment Bio-med prior to re-releasing to stock (100%). As evidenced that no equipment with outside physical damage is placed in service.

  • Inventories and orders all facility gas cylinders once a week. Facility does not experience tank shortages more than 1 to 3 times every 6 months. Checks oxygen cylinders in facility floor banks and replaces empty or low bottles in all areas weekly.

  • Stocks supplies on floors and ICU on request within one hour; check floors and restock on a routine basis insuring no supply outage more than 1 to 3 times every 2 months.

  • On a daily basis, takes completed, over read, ABG reports and places them in the patient's chart in the appropriate section and/or delivers discharged patient's reports to Medical Records with no more than 2 to 4 misdirected reports annually. ABG reports to be delivered to charts within 24 hours of service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to: Work under stress and prioritize, communicate effectively, troubleshoot respiratory care equipment, take inventory, stock and order, understand and implement infection control procedures.
