The Department of Cultural & Community Engagement is seeking Innovation Hub Network AmeriCorps Members to work for the Utah STEM Action Center. These member positions will work with participants in makerspace Hubs across the state,with a priority of recruiting participants that are ordinarily underrepresented in STEM. Members will report to their Site Supervisor. The Innovation Hub Network AmeriCorps Member s responsibilities will include facilitating STEM activities,developing new impactful STEM lessons,working with the Utah STEM Action Center to recruit community & industry volunteers for makerspace support,and helping Hub network partners meet and set goals.    GENERAL PURPOSE   AmeriCorps is a national organization modeled after the Peace Corps that involves opportunities for American citizens to contribute to the betterment of their community through working in schools and with non-profit organizations. The Utah STEM Action Center AmeriCorps Innovation Hub Network Program (UIHNP) is funded through the nationwide AmeriCorps organization and the Utah State Commission on Volunteers (UServeUtah).       JOB OVERVIEW   AmeriCorps Innovation Hub Network Members (also called AmeriCorps Members ) will be stationed at Innovation Hub Network locations around the state and will be responsible for engaging participants in high-quality,inclusive,and culturally-responsive STEM programming. Members will receive training on STEM activity facilitation best practices and,with the guidance of their Site Supervisor,aid in the development of additional STEM activities,lessons,and curriculums in a limited capacity. To help support the successful facilitation of STEM programming at Innovation Hubs,Members may also participate in the set up,troubleshooting,and ongoing maintenance of makerspace equipment. *MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES: *

• Facilitate high-quality,inclusive,culturally-responsive STEM programming
• Develop additional STEM programming activities,lessons,or curriculum under direction of your Site Supervisor
• Respect and affirm the diversity of student backgrounds and experiences in your STEM facilitation 
• Assist in the set-up,troubleshooting,and maintenance of makerspace equipment
• Collaborate with members across the statewide network 

OTHER MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Use UIHNP to track participant satisfaction,demographic information,and social-emotional development through the use of pre-made surveys
• Recruit,train and supervise community volunteers and/or older students to expand capacity of makerspace programming
• Complete pre-service and annual training modules on the Canvas learning management system
• Participate in weekly training assignments and discussions,as well as monthly collaboration group meetings about such topics as working with youth,recruiting volunteers,etc. and provide them with the opportunity to learn from AmeriCorps Members serving at other Hubs
• Complete a minimum of 25/50 (quarter time/half time) community service hours to aid the community with needs beyond their regular tutoring program responsibilities (based on a Site Supervisor-approved plan). Organize and participate in community service projects on 9/11 Remembrance Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day (hours involved are part of the community service hours) 
• Complete hours under the site supervisor s supervision and record on timesheet prior to the 5th of each month

• Meet all other requirements of the contractual agreement (explained and signed at pre-service orientation)

    BENEFITS:   Members have the chance to learn about STEM facilitation and makerspace skills. Often,makerspaces are full of equipment that requires the development of high demand skills. In the process of working in these spaces,Members develop high-demand STEM skills as well as excellent management,orga ization,and volunteer supervision skills as they work hand in hand with Site Supervisors to manage a meaningful and effective makerspace program.    Over the course of their up-to 12-month term of service,members receive a living allowance of $6,750 as quarter-time members (450 hours),or $13,500 as half-time members (900 hours). This living allowance is paid out in equal monthly installments. At the end of each honorably completed service year,members are awarded an education credit that can be used for tuition,fees,and books at any accredited post-secondary institution or towards payment of student loans. For this position,this will total $1,678.57/$3,172.50 for 450/900 hours of service,respectively. members over the age of 55 can transfer their education award to a child or grandchild. All members qualify for forbearance of payments on current student loans.    Members receive support and encouragement as well as check-in s and site visits from UIHNP staff during their term of service and ongoing access to the nationwide AmeriCorps Alumni Network that can help them with networking,employment and mentorship. Each member can serve for up to 4 terms and can receive the equivalent of up to two full time education awards.   INFORMATION ON THE AMERICORPS POSITION:   To complete the minimum number of service hours required, members should be able to commit to the following schedules:

• Quarter-time (450 hours): Approximately 6.8 hours of direct service in Innovation Hub Network programming and 1.7 hours of program and member development opportunities. 7 - 10 hours per week.

• Part-time (900 hours): Approximately 14.8 hours of direct service in Innovation Hub Network programming and 3.7 hours of program and member development. 17 - 20 hours per week. 

These schedules may be subject to change if members wish to increase their weekly hour quotas to complete their term of service within a shorter annual period. MEMBER REQUIREMENTS:

• Members should have experience working with children or youth. Preference will be given to those that have an interest in pursuing a career in education,STEM,or another related field. 
• Members must be 17 years old and a citizen of the United States.
• Members must produce these documents prior to enrollment: U.S. birth certificate or passport,driver s license,and social security card.
• Members must submit to and pass an FBI background check/National Sex Offender Database check conducted prior to hire in accordance with NSCHC requirements. 
• Members should have an interest in makerspaces and a solid maker mindset.
• Members must be proficient with basic computer software. 
• Members must be able to collaborate with site-supervisors,volunteers,program Managers,and other Members.
• Preference will be given to those with proficiency in an additional language (i.e. Spanish,Dine/Navajo,etc.).
