Title: Librarian III Cataloger                                                                                           Starting wage: $26.00-$32.00 per hour               Job Description The Utah State Library Division seeks a collaborative and forward-thinking cataloger to join our cataloging team. This position will spend their time cataloging the physical collection of the Utah State Library,including the State Documents Collection. Principle Duties The incumbent will:

  • Perform both original and copy cataloging of library materials in all formats with attention to detail for optimal public access.
  • Maintain authority control over the bibliographic database.
  • Apply terms from controlled vocabularies including Library of Congress name and subject authorities
  • Apply terms from controlled vocabularies including Library of Congress name and subject authorities.
  • Learn and use the customized SUDOC Utah State Publication classification system to correctly classify materials.
  • Creatively solve problems and be willing to ask for help.
  • Complete the inventory of the state docs collection,performing database cleanup during the process.

  • Familiar with classification practices using the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Experienced using OCLC Connexion,CatExpress,WebDewey,and/or RDA Toolkit.
  • Best qualified individuals will have obtained a MLS Degree in Library Science or closely related field of study and/or a combination of education and/or experience in a library science. 

Preferences

  • Preference may be given to those with a Master of Library Science
  • Previous cataloging experience using WorldShare Records Manager
  • OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and paid professional employment directly related to the above tasks.

Typical Qualifications The following are typically associated with this job:

  • Familiarity with library technology tools,including collection management software,databases,and websites.
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely,both verbally and in writing
  • Self-motivated,ability to work independently.
  • Highly detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of traditional MARC cataloging concepts and procedures.
  • Able to read,write and speak English.
