Job Summary

THIS IS A PART - TIME , NON - BENEFITED POSITION , OPEN TO BOTH STUDENTS AND NON - STUDENTS ; MUST BE AVAILABLE Mon- Fri, 12 –2 pm with additional hours necessary to support other team members.

This individual is a vital member of a team committed to supporting student success. The Academic Advising Center’s ( AAC ) reception team creates a welcoming and inclusive environment. We assist and support the needs of all students, families, faculty, and staff who contact AAC in a quick, knowledgeable, accurate and friendly manner. We also support the AAC advising staff as they assist students in reaching their academic goals. This team member greets in-person and phone visitors and assesses need in order to accurately and efficiently connect visitors to appropriate resources; and provides general office support. This position is currently working physically on campus while classes are in session.

Priority consideration will be given to applications received by May 9th, 2024

Responsibilities

  1. Receive, greet, and direct visitors to appropriate person or office; check in students and other visitors who have advising appointments.

  2. Answer telephones, providing assistance and directing students and other visitors to the correct individuals or office.

  3. Assess student needs and connect to appropriate resources.

  4. Schedule appointments utilizing electronic appointment management system.

  5. Create and maintain files.

  6. Answer questions about the department and associated activities.

  7. Assist with word processing, data entry and internet searches.

  8. Other assistance with general office duties and projects, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. One year full-time customer service experience or equivalency, demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Basic skills in word processing and working with electronic calendars.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse communities.

  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure when needed.

  • Higher education experience (and familiarity with University of Utah campus and offices in particular) is a plus.

  • Availability to work at least until the end of the academic year
