Job Summary

The Shcheglovitov Lab in the Department of Neurobiology invites applications from qualified individuals to fill a Research Scientist position. The Research Scientist will be responsible for. developing research projects, and is responsible for scientific design, conducting and interpreting research experiments, presenting results, and publishing manuscripts. Additional responsibilities include working with different types of cultured human cells, performing basic research experiments using PCR , qRT- PCR , IHC , WB, and imaging.

Essential Functions

• Develops scientific research projects and Work independently with minimal supervision.

• Sets up new methods or assays to accomplish scientific objectives.

• Identifies and implements creative solutions to overcome problems.

• Organizes, interprets data and derives study conclusions.

• Collaborates with internal and external investigators on multiple research projects ensuring scientific significance and feasibility.

• Summarizes results in the form of scientific abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts.

• Assists with grant preparation by researching background and performing preliminary experiments.

• Researches and stays current with project-related scientific literature.

• Available to work some weekends

• Supervise animal care and research; keep track of mouse colony, perform minor animal surgery, and collect animal tissues for experiments.

Problem Solving

This position may be involved with problems requiring modifications of scientific methods. This position is required to efficiently manage several research coordinators and associates as well as to allocate resources to address the needs of ongoing clinical trials.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or other scientific discipline in a related field plus four years of experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
