Job Summary

Become part of the J. Willard Marriott Library User Experience and Web Development team. The successful candidate will be self motivated, able to work as part of a team as well as independently, and have a background in user focused graphic design and/or web development. This position will work collaboratively with the Marriott Library department of designers, developers, and UX experts to utilize user-centered design skills in a higher education professional setting.

For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted.

Responsibilities

  • Create specific solutions to solve usability and interface issues in web based and physical space applications

  • Apply user focused design in a variety of digital and print contexts

  • Utilize user focused design research in the design, content, and delivery of the Marriott Library and partner websites

  • Assist in facilitating Marriott Library usability testing and focus groups

  • Work with colleagues throughout the design process to best display content and message as well as communicate and advocate for best practices

  • Develop proficiency in web coding languages and libraries including but not limited to CSS , PHP , HTML , Bootstrap, Javascript, and jQuery

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.

Preferences

  • Experience with user experience design and/or responsive web design development.

  • 1+ year education in User Experience, Design, or related field.

  • Experience with CSS , HTML , Javascript, Wordpress, Adobe Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or related coding languages and development and design platforms.
