The QuickBooks Payroll Money team is on a mission to transform small business (“SMB”) payroll money movement using technology and data to simplify the process.

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to support our growing portfolio and handle the daily operational accounting of our business. We are focused on accelerating our growth and scaling the business, and this role is critical to our success. There is a tremendous amount of innovation ahead to achieve this scale with institutional quality servicing systems, data, reporting, and operational processes. The position is located in San Diego or Mountain View.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to collaborate and lead across multiple functions and roles; the ability to translate technical literature and accounting/company policy into clear requirements for execution; strong change management skills; the ability to lead projects; and the ability to drive issues through to resolution to accelerate our growth and scaling.

What you'll bring

  • 7+ years of technical accounting experience with accruals, journal entries, and account reconciliations

  • Ability to interpret and present technical accounting details in lay terms to non-accounting business partners

  • Strong technical (GAAP) and financial accounting skills and ability to document accounting conclusions in a technical white paper

  • Public accounting or large public company experience strongly preferred

  • Software industry experience a plus

  • Analytical thinker who can identify and implement effective processes improvements

  • Large accounting software package expertise (Oracle financials, etc).

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, strong written and oral communication skills

  • Outstanding Excel skills

  • CPA preferred

  • BS or BA Degree preferred or equivalent work experience

How you will lead

  • Gather, prepare, test, and maintain journal entries for a broad range of accounting areas consistent with GAAP and corporate accounting policies to ensure close timelines are met.

  • Independently lead project-based work.

  • Effectively assess risk over accounts and areas of responsibility. Apply judgment to ensure the financial integrity of accounting entries, accruals, and account reconciliations are intact and operating effectively.

  • Assist in research of technical accounting issues as needed. Apply proper accounting treatment required as a basis for booking journal entries and gathering audit evidence.

  • Participate in the month and quarter-end close process and related responsibilities for the accounting department.

  • Prepare and maintain reports / schedules for management, and prepare schedules requested by internal and external auditors.

  • Support compliance and improve processes and internal controls in area of responsibility.

  • Understand business unit and functional group strategy, priorities and offerings, developing deep knowledge of core and adjacent markets.

  • Work directly with external auditors to support financial statement audits and control environment testing.

  • Develop training and outreach programs and delivers this training to business unit and functional team leaders.
