Aston Carter Controller (Consultant) in San Jose, California
SUMMARY: Acts as a deputy to the Legal Entity Head of Finance, and provides the financial services required to support and enable T-SY’s profitable growth. Ensures proper IFRS accounting; strongly supports budgeting, forecasting, monthly closing and year end closing process, including analysis. Acts as the interface for financial topics between DO/PB/MU. Responsible for Project Controlling in R&D in San Jose (limited to local projects). Act as a business partner for all local financial matters.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Budgeting
Support the budgeting process within the site
Ensure the timely reporting of the legal unit budgets
Ensure the consistency and reliability of the budget figures
Forecasting
Support the forecast process within the site
Analyze the forecast figures and propose actions to be taken
Monthly Reporting
Ensure the timely reporting of actual figures of the legal unit
Ensure the consistency and reliability of the actual figures
Analyze monthly reports and propose corrective actions
Comment on major differences in comparison to budget, forecast, prior year (P&L, important items of the balance sheet)
Supervise time booking, accrual of expenses as well as warranty provisions and handling / booking of claims
Accounting
General Ledger preparation, including complete month end close in SAP and reconciliation.
Input and reconciliation of month end COGNOS forms.
Review and follow Tecan DOA guidelines.
Prepare bank account reconciliations & oversee other banking issues. Oversee ACH activities.
Assist in evaluation and cost management of Fixed Assets in accordance with company policies. Update Fixed Assets System with company records on a monthly basis as well as computing depreciation for book and tax purposes. Provide roll forwards or reconciliations to assist with the monthly close process along with the annual financial audit.
Preparation, filing and reconciliation of sales tax and SAP for compliance.
Review and perform bi-weekly payroll journals in an accurate and timely manner.
Prepare monthly schedules of accruals for various G/L accounts.
Review funding of employee’s 401K, annual company contribution and assists in 401K audit as required.
Prepare required government and employee benefit reports, records, and legal payroll filings. Coordinate with payroll provider and regulations, including 401K and payroll tax issues
Additional duties
Monitor all cost centers and internal orders
Implement cost savings as decided in Budget Process
Prepare monthly material cost savings report for production and other KPI reports
Material calculation (control bill of materials, standard costs, intersegment prices) for year and valuation of the inventory and new standard prices for the new business year
Assist in annual cost roll and daily cycle counts
Ensure proper inventory level incl. slow movers, initiate measures to reach targets
Support R&D Controlling for T-SY projects
KPI – Project cost, funding, monitoring of milestones and reasons for deviation
Standard costs of products
R&D project manager meetings, project planning meetings
Prepare other ad-hoc analysis for R&D Management
TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
BS/BA in Finance, Accounting, Economics or equivalent education/certification plus relevant work experience required.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in a finance function or department in an international industrial environment or on an operational level, or five years as a Controller in the manufacturing sector.
Demonstrated ability to supervise. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role
CPA or other certification or advanced education a plus.
Experience with both domestic and international financial activities and projects.
SAP, Business Warehouse and Cognos experience preferred.
Able to apply logical/scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Must possess an analytical mindset and an affinity for numbers with a demonstrated track record of superior attention to detail.
Highly organized and able to schedule activities effectively to meet deadlines.
Able to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
