Under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Physicist, and the Director-Radiation Oncology Operations, the Physics Assistant provides support to the Medical Physicist to ensure a comprehensive quality assurance program that encompasses the proper function of radiation measurement equipment, treatment devices, imaging systems, and associated equipment and technologies. Impacts patient care and research activities related to radiation oncology.

  • Assists the Chief Medical Physicists with regular scheduled maintenance of radiation physics equipment by such means as performing quality assurance checks and testing.

  • Assists in maintaining an inventory of radiation physics equipment and devices, ensures radiation physics equipment is kept in good working order through correct storage and usage; informs the Medical Physics Leader of any equipment malfunction and deficiency.

  • Participates, as directed by the Chief Medical Physicist, in related clinical service including but not limited to patient specific QA, in-vivo dosimetry and dose verification.

  • Assists in performing measurements on radiation therapy equipment and with computer related tasks by performing such duties.

  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, families and staff through such methods as adhering to safety policies and standards and emergency produces.

  • Assists, the dosimetry and treatment planning group in the handling images, image fusion and contouring under the guidance of the Chief of Dosimetry.

  • Assists in the 3D design and printing of treatment devices and tools.

  • Assists in the design of treatment devices such as photon, electron blocks and compensators.

  • Assists, as required by a Medical Physicist, in the design of quality assuance procedures.
