Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in the promotion, design, development, and administration of recreational programs.

  • Experience in program and/or facility management, supervision of personnel and participants, purchasing processes and payroll management. Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as the ability to exercise good judgement.

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license. A driving record check will be required of selected applicant.

  • Current CPR , AED , First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens certifications or ability to obtain within 45 days.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of campus recreation as demonstrated by a minimum of one year of full-time employment in a college or university-level campus recreation program.

  • Demonstrated experience in the training and supervision of student employees to accomplish program operations.

  • Skill in sports officiating and multiple sports official training.

  • Skill in developing and implementing risk management protocols.

  • Ability and knowledge to positively manage participant-program conflicts, risk management and emergency response.

  • American Red Cross Certified Instructor for CPR , AED and First Aid.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation Administration, or related field from accredited institution of higher education.

  • Master’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation Administration, or related field from accredited institution of higher education.

  • Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 or equivalent product.

Job Description

Responsible for providing and promoting opportunities for the Texas State community to participate in recreational activities and resources.

Job Duties

Programming:

  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate approximately 60 student staff, including but not limited to supervisors and officials.

  • Generate and implement new ideas for programs. Plan and administer student leadership program for Sport Club Officers.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork, customer service, ethical leadership and continuing education that supports the department’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Serve as department liaison to the Sport Club Student Alliance and attend their monthly meetings.

  • Lead sport clubs and department fundraising efforts to include Step Up for State.

  • Work with marketing department to coordinate Sport Club promotions to campus and community via a variety of platforms, including, but not limited to, social media, flyers, bulletin boards, tabling, and videos.

  • Support Campus Recreation Facility Operations for special events, facility rentals, and programming.

  • Assist in facilitating department’s fall, spring and summer New Student Orientation programming and start of semester events.

Accounting & Statistics:

  • Develop, administer, and analyze aspects of program budget and financial records including sport club team accounts, revenue generation, and monitoring year to year comparisons.

  • Purchase and maintain inventory appropriate equipment and supplies.

  • Facilitate payroll procedures for student employees and ensure compliance with payroll and purchasing processes.

  • Maintain monthly and semester participation and income reports.

  • Administer university travel process on behalf of sport club teams. Promotion:

  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop posters, fliers, social media, and videos to promote programs.

  • Update the website with program information.

  • Provide quality customer service, phone and email etiquette.

Risk Management and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance of staff with industry standard safety and risk management practices, facility and equipment inspections, and Campus Recreation policies and procedures.

  • Assist in the instruction of American Red Cross trainings for CPR / AED , First Aid. Evaluation:

  • Update and maintain performance plans and reviews for student staff.

  • Respond in a timely manner to feedback provided by constituents.

  • Implement assessment plan which includes year-to-year data trend collections and assistance with strategic planning. Conduct routine assessments on all programming and facilities.

  • Ensure facility and equipment replacement plans are implemented and updated.

  • Develop procedures, protocols, and trainings to ensure safety of participants and staff.

  • Utilize all evaluations and assessments when planning and preparing for future program offerings.

Professional Development:

  • Membership in University/Student Affairs Committees.

  • Attend and participate in Campus Recreation staff meetings and other related activities.

  • Attend and participate in conference/workshops related to the field of recreation and related fields.

  • Ability to develop and maintain supportive, and professional working relationships in an collaborative environment.

Other:

  • In accordance with the Division of Student Success and the Department of Campus Recreation Strategic Plan, other duties as assigned.

  • This position requires a flexible work schedule which at times will require frequent attendance during evenings and weekends. Additional hours may be required during peak periods.

Additional Information to Applicants

The Coordinator of Competitive Sports will assist in leading and managing the administration and operation of the competitive sports program, consisting of intramural sports and sport clubs programs. The Coordinator will be responsible for aspects of program delivery, quality control, risk management, student staffing, scheduling, advertising, marketing content, purchasing, promotion, inventory, repairs and security. Additionally, this position will aid in the recruitment, supervision, training, evaluation, scheduling and documentation of student staff skill development, support in the supervision of events and programs while ensuring risk management planning and execution meet department standards. This will include some nights, weekend work and point of contact during holiday breaks. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, direct collaboration for achievement of the vision, mission, and strategic goals of Campus Recreation

  • Ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours.
